Thank God It's Friday!

It's been a rough week....battling a cold, battling students (yeah, they didn't stay the sweet and concerned)...and new principal...Plus now I have to jump through some hoops to post pictures on here....

So I have sent my swap parcel off the Japan...I doubt my swap partner even knows I exist, let alone this blog..so here is what I made her and sent off....4 pairs of earrings.  She said she likes fun earrings...

The ones on the bottom are just drops....I actually stiffened the turtles and snowflakes, which I have never done before....Probably will make some more snowflakes...

I also finished another project for Nerd Wars...my SOS gloves...

And that would be it for me this week...please check out other finished projects at Creative Friday,

One of the reasons

I teach is the students....

today, I was not feeling well...and it was very hot in my classroom....I got really light-headed and almost fainted....

One student brought me a chair (I was standing in the classroom doorway)....they told everyone to go sit down (we were getting ready to switch classes)....and one of them stood behind me fanning me.....

Some days I am full of frustration....and then there are these days.....plus they were all on task today and working....it was a good day...

Misc on a Sunday

Tomorrow it is back to work....I planned on cleaning this weekend....yeah that did not happen..but I did crochet quite a bit!

I am working on another pair of fingerless gloves...and have pulled apart the second one a couple of times...I always make one bigger than the other...sigh...

I have made 4 pair of earrings for my swap partner....well I have to put the earring wire on them...but I did crochet 4 pairs yesterday, plus a couple of extra Stargates....then I sprayed starch on them and put them outside to dry overnight...hopefully it works....
The ones on the bottom are drops, and I sprayed the curl....the Stargates did not need to be starched.

I received my latest Nerd Wars yarn - In Like A Lion

I ordered a cowl from Wisdom Begins in Wonder....she made it for Nerd Wars..how awesome is that!
I won a basket of Dunkin Donuts goodies.....I think I may donate the coffee and maybe the cups, not sure we'd ever use them...or maybe regift...
And this is what my computer desk looks like right now....I clean it off and it just gets messy again...

And I have a nasty cough today.....just in time to go back to work....

Black Friday Finishes

I shopped Black Friday once...and said Never Again!  But I also don't have a ton of people to buy for and no kids...I think it may be worth it, if you have kids.....yup...I may stay in the pj's all day...although the LYS 5 minutes from me is having a buy 2, get 1 free sale today...may have to wander up there for that!

This is my ZPM Cowl....it reminds me of the ZPM's in Stargate.  I made it for Nerd Wars.  This yarn has gone far!
It is Creatively Dyed Beaches one-off color.  I bought it from her the first year she was at Rhinebeck.  I walked by her booth a couple of times and it kept catching my eye, so I knew it had to be...It probably is my favorite colorway...and I still have a ball left!

My other finished object today is the niece's Starry, Starry Night Mitts....They came out great!  I still have a ton of that yarn left, so may be making myself a pair!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!  I have some cleaning to do...but now I think I am heading in search of breakfast.....

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving...this is not a big holiday for the Hubs and I....but it is nice to say thanks for the many blessings you have in life.

Today I will be attending my first football game in years....the nephew, who is a freshman, was asked to suit up for this game...that's a BIG DEAL!!!!  So I am going to support him and see if old BEHS can bring the bell back to school....

ETA:  And we did!!!!!!  BEHS will keep the bell for another year!  Got to see some old friends and hang out with some family...it was lots of fun..I intend to craft the rest of the day, as the Hubs does the cooking!

1/2 Day, WIP Wednesday and Yarn Along

Today is a half day at school....yeah!!!!  It used to be a full day and changed several years ago...I don't cook and we don't travel, but it's good for everyone who does....now on to the projects...

OOPs...Blogger is telling me I exceeded my limit and cannot upload pictures....uhmm...maybe time to move said blog?  Any ideas? I wouldn't mind paying for a blog now, as I've kept one for so long..but I don't use my blog as part of my business...so something in the cheaper range...or do I just pay for more storage? - Seems like I found a run around...I can use my photobucket account!  Yeah! It's an extra step, but it works for me...

So I have two works in progress...one is another Seraphina shawl..this is the third I've made and given away...I am making it in similar colors to the first picture that she has on her site

I am also making a ZPM cowl...and when I took the picture earlier..it was unfinished...as of 30 minutes ago, it is now finished....

I have been reading Pride and Prejudice...and numerous craft magazines...the newest Interweave Crochet Accessories....

And that is it for me here.....pictureless.....

Well I'll link to a picture on Ravelry...so if you can go that extra step and link to Rav...here's my WIP photo for the week...and oh, yeah on the nook is the Sock Report...it's basically a giant advertisement for patterns, but a fun read...

So head on over to Tami's and  Ginny's  to actually see some pictures of projects...

I Shall Geek Out With The Yarn

So lately I have been introducing a certain someone to all these new "geeky" wonderful yarns...and today!  Slap me with a wet noodle! (This is actually a story from my dad...my grandmother told him to go get her something to hit him with and he went and got a spaghetti noodle from the fridge...and yes he got hit worse, but says it was worth it for the look on her face....then there was the time when he brought peanut butter and jelly to church to make sandwiches with the wafers...yeah my dad was a handful as a child...)

So I digress....checking out Sheri's updates for the Loopy Ewe today and what figures prominently????  Jack O'Neill yarn!  Are you kidding me?  There is Jack O'Neill yarn!  I've got to get some...but really want Daniel Jackson yarn...and Samantha Carter and Teal'c...oh and General Hammond yarn would be so awesome!!!!

The yarn is made by Woolen Mill St yarn...and yes I will be ordering some...she has some other great nerdy colors too!!!  But I have to get Stargate yarn!!!

Well I have Nerd Girls Stargate yarn, but character yarn is a sure thing!!!  Especially since I have no cable...and just spent the last hour watching the 25th reunion show of Star Trek: The Next Generation....uhmm  wonder if anyone has Jean Luc Picard yarn yet???  Or Wil Wheaton!!

The time of night

It's about 4:30 outside and the sun is going down...I read once this was the "gloaming."  I love this time, right before it gets too dark, there is still a pop of color in the sky....

I took my cowl and tunic outside to get some completed pictures...

At times, I can be a very colorful person.....hehehe...

Friday Finishes after Conferences

Tonight was parent conferences, we have two more days next week...it's an exhausting night!  But the majority of the scheduled conferences showed up! Yeah!!

I finished this "Election" cowl on the 6th while watching the "race," but have still not taken a new picture of it....

I believe the yarn is Noro Iro, but the tag had fallen of.  I bought some Noro "something" to make matching mitts for it, but haven't started them yet.

My principal was blessed with her first grandchild, a boy.  In addition, my vice principal also had her first grandchild, well, children, as her son had twins....so I made them hats...
This is Tweetheart Hat pattern...isn't it adorable!!!  My friend made the same hat for her daughters...
Too cute!!!

Please check out other finishes at: Wisdom Begins in Wonder  and Tami

WIP Wednesday

Late posting today, but it has been awhile since I did a WIP post...It is after 10 at night here and I just took a picture, forgive the quality...

I am reading Pride and Prejudice on the nook.....I don't think I've ever read the entire story....I skipped through it....unlike Persuasion, which I love and read fairly quickly...

I am also working on a pair of fingerless mitts for my niece.  She picked out this yarn on our trip last summer...It is the Starry Starry Night/Vincent Van Gogh colorway from Opal.  I've used Opal yarns before, but this ball has had some difficulties....I don't know what has happened, but I've had 3 breaks already in the yarn....It's frustrating....

The pattern is Cold Blooded Fingerless Gloves.  I've had to adjust it quite a bit, as my niece is super skinny and her arms are really skinny....I think she'll like them though....I do....

I also have some finishes for Friday...tomorrow night is night parent conferences, so I won't get home until late.....I'm tired already...

Since it's so late, I'm not going to bother to link this week...hope you all have a great day tomorrow...

Election Day in the USA

Where I live we do not have early voting, but I was able to get in and out in no time....it is absolutely crazy lines in some parts of the country....

I was an independent until the 2008 elections.  In my state, you must be affiliated with a party in order to vote in the primaries....so I registered Democrat....the Hubs, he's Republican....I'm a screaming liberal....and I fear for this country if the Republicans end up in the White House...it's not just the twit that is running, but all the tea-lunatics that also would have some power....because he has not stood up to his party on anything or stood firm on issues....and he has no concept of what it is to struggle....

I am an independent, educated woman who should be in control of my life choices, not some white guys in Congress or my employer....

I believe that if people love each other, they should be able to commit to that relationship in a legal way...no matter what their gender....

I believe that I should be paid the same as a man, if I am doing the same job and doing it as well....and I should be promoted equally...

I believe that rape is rape...and it is a crime and not God's will....

I believe that immigrants should be assumed innocent of any crime, regardless of their skin color, unless it is proven that they have done something illegal....we are all descendants of immigrants who came here for a better life....

I believe religion has NO place in politics, and I don't even care if my president believes in God....there is suppose to be separation of Church and State in our country....and just because you believe something....does not mean you have the right to mandate that I believe the same thing...we fought a war to earn our freedom from such tyranny....

I believe that religion is an individual choice, and noone's beliefs or God should take precedence over someone's else's beliefs or God....

I may make some people angry by these statements, but this is who I am.....I don't make politics an issue on this blog (but you should see my Facebook feed!)  And I felt it was high time to just state who I am and what I believe...

New England Fiber Festival 2012

This is an up and coming fiber festival...and really the last one in these parts of the season....

heading in....I drove up by myself, but planned on meeting up with some people...

You first walk into a large room where the animal vendors are....I stopped by my local alpaca farm to chat with Karen....here is one of her beautiful boys...

At noon I met up with some people at Mad Color's booth.  Laura, I have known for a couple of years (and recently went on the Boston Yarn Crawl with her)  The other two are Nerd Warriors that I met for the first time!  Yeah Nerd Wars!

Yes I am wearing my loud obnoxious granny square tunic....and can you see Wilkey peeking out from my bag?

I also met up with Amy again, but we did not get a picture....

This is Play At Life, another Nerd Warrior!!!!!  She had a booth there too....

Just some random shots of the day...I did not take a ton of pictures...

Wilkey wanted to hang out with the Moose...I said no...
W

And what did I come home with?  I was really good!  I had ordered some yarn from Mad Color, so I picked that up, along with a contrasting color.  I got an alpaca yarn bowl, a couple of small braids of fiber for my swap partner, a couple of buttons, a new monkey bag from Jesslu and some spindles for decoration...

And thus ends my fiber festival season this year!

Word Verification - We Are Not Robots!

I hate word verification!  Please check your blog and consider removing word verification if you have it....especially for those of us who also monitor our comments...you don't need it...

And Blogger has a good spam filter and it has gotten better, and they don't even recommend word verification any longer.....I have left blogs without commenting over frustration with word verification....please, please consider turning it off!

Please check out some other posts on this, here, here and here.  If you're not sure how to turn it off, go here

I am off to pet some yarnz.....

Friday Finishes...and some yarn!

I actually have some finishes!  I have not done much crafting this month due to the tendonitis, which the doctor said would take awhile to heal....so I just have to take it easy sometimes....

My Anne Teldy scarf.  Maj. Teldy was a character in Stargate Atlantis.  She was named after a regular visitor to Joseph Mallozzi's blog.  She won a contest on the blog to have a character named after her.  I enjoyed my interactions with her.  Anne Teldy was not her actual name, it was Kelly Hurt....and she was fighting a daily battle of her own.  Unfortunately she lost that battle earlier this year...so I made this scarf in memory of her.

Rowan cowl, made with Rowan Colourspun, which I heart very much!

Austen-inspired hat....made with Zealana Rimu yarn...I still have another skein, so I see some fingerless gloves...

Hah!  and I have some new yarnz!
Random Fandom:  "If your gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?"  How cool!  DeLorean yarn!!!  It came with a mini skateboard, very awesome!

And the new Mad Color Mad Geek Tour continues..the next three months are Firefly based..and to kick it off...

Serenity Valley - "Once you've been in Serenity, you never leave.  You just learn to live there."  Zoe Washburne....Love!!!!!!

And tomorrow I head to my last fiber festival of the summer....hmm wonder what I'll come home with???  I'd love to get one of those SOAK kits I saw after Rhinebeck... And I have pre-ordered some yarn to pick up tomorrow...

I'm gonna connect up late to...Wisdom Begins in Wonder, Natural Suburbia and Tami

Winner, winner.....

no chicken dinner!!!  And the random generator picked out "Hi, I'm Vicki"!!!!!  Who has left 6 previous comments on my blog starting in March!  Congratulations Vicki and send me an email with your address...or put it in a comment, I monitor, so it won't be posted...Whoop!

Trick Or Treat

I took a student and her little sister trick or treating last night..we had great fun...the town did a whole downtown thing that was fun...then we met up with another teacher and we went out in her neighborhood...

And we ran into Mitt Zombie...
