Hanging With the Friends...

So today was awards ceremony at school...and when all was said and done, I had 8 students left...so I combined my class with my friend, Deidre...and then Deidre asked the class(es) to talk me into going out for dinner (didn't want to go)...ended up going...so where do 3 Cuban-Americans, 1 Puerto Rican-American, 1 Italian-American, 1 Irish-American and 1 mixed mutt American (that's me!) go for dinner?

Well that would be a Mexican restaurant!

Happy Weekend everyone!

Tomorrow I am off to the Connecticut Sheep and Wool..what lovelies shall I find?

This was posted on America's Knitting page on Facebook...it made me laugh out loud....not sure where it originally came from as it did not have a link...

YOP #16

I feel as if I have celebrated already by seeing the play....the Hubs and I don't really celebrate...we did when my stepfather was alive, as it was his holiday..which included some nasty raisin sauce that was made for the ham.  But since the Hubs and I don't have children, and my Mom is in Florida, we haven't really "celebrated" in years.  But then again I have had this running through my head all morning...
This video felt like my church, we sing it very similar to this church's arrangement.

Epic Stash Saturday...

So on Thursday I headed to WEBS....I have two swaps to chop for and I just wanted to get away for a day....haven't done much this Spring Break, read a lot, watched tv..took naps...weather was really nice on Monday and then kinda crappy the rest of the week...with snow, rain, cold....

And what did I see?  Honestly I walked around for at least 40 minutes without deciding....then this happened..
And who wouldn't want fun socks like those!
It's not even in the Ravelry database, so it must be very new...

Then I went back to the warehouse and picked up a few things I had seen on my walk through...I was CONVINCED that I NEEDED to make something in Orchid....so this happened...

There are actually 5 skeins..I've already started on two...while I like the feel of the yarn, it is really splitty!  I also picked up the new Interweave Crochet and am making the Zelda Cloche with this yarn.

I also picked up this for socks...

I also picked up a skein of this..

but put it back and got three skeins of this
to make the Sermilik Shawl, an anniversary pattern for WEBS by Kristin Omdahl.  I've been looking for a crochet shawl pattern.  The yarn is also anniversary yarn dyed by Lorna's Laces in Valley Yarns Huntington.

Then I saw this
and got it to make the Centuria Tam by Franklin Habit....whether he knows it or not, he's my new buddy, since I met him at Stitches.....and yes it's the same color he used...another set of Anniversary pattern with Anniversary yarn....I also got some buttons, pins, hand lotion, and the two patterns.

But WAIT!  I was NOT DONE, as I decided to stop by Creative Yarns on the way home....and these came home with me...

Malabrigo Yarn Silky Merino...cuz ya' know that blue I mentioned?  Yeah....
And some of this..Zen Yarn Garden in a OOAK.....int he new Serenity 20

And then I found these in the sale bin...or rather shelf....
Both 100% cashmere at 50% off...and 4 buttons..gonna be a stripey cowl with buttons...any suggestions?

And yes I did get yarn for one of my swaps, the other one, I have to get a particular yarn...but I did buy some other little doodady things....

Finished Objects Friday...

Haven't done one of these in a while, but I have a few finishes...

Last night I finished a quick bunny hat with flowers for a friend's baby....

I've been in a couple of recent swaps...so for the fairytale swap...I made her a couple of headpieces...a crown headband (which you can also wear as a necklace)

A rose barrette
And a mermaid scale barrette...her favorite fairy tale is The Little Mermaid....

And another quick baby hat I sent off to a friend for her first grandchild...

Joining Fiber Arts Friday and Creative Friday, Tami is traveling and wasn't sure she'd get a post up..

It's Not For Me.....honest!

I am heading to WEBS......to shop for two swaps....I'm not looking for myself...honest!  But ya' know if I see that deep blue color I was eyeing on another blog.....all bets are off!

The Passion of The King

I've never felt the need to wear my religion on my sleeve or proclaim who I am religiously, but here is the FYI....I was raised Lutheran, my mom was raised Catholic...my husband was raised Catholic...I do not attend church on a regular basis, but I believe in God and an afterlife....I did attend church regularly as a child and even went to a Lutheran school for 4 years....so I learned the Bible...but I also believe that religion and people's faith have caused more wars and heartbreak in this world than anything else.

But last night I went to see a production of The Passion of the King, put on by a local church, Crossroads Community Cathedral because a former student was in the ensemble and I was invited.  It was also her 13th birthday.

The first act was very long....each scene was long and they didn't all necessarily have to end with a song.  But there were some truly beautiful singers on stage.  The highlight of the first act was a scene with all children and Jesus...then they dance and sing....it was adorable.

The second act was very different.  It was extremely powerful.  The second scene is The Last Supper scene and very well done...I teared up in two scenes, Simon Peter denying Christ three times....and when Christ was flogged...what you can't see in that picture, is Mary singing and wailing throughout the flogging...very effective...

The crucifixion scene was brutal (there is a warning that no children under 6 should be allowed, and the little children were not on stage during this) and I cried.

When Jesus walked out of the tomb, the audience broke into applause.

I'm glad I went, it was a very good production....and I got to see one of my favorite students and her mom on stage....

Really? And a WIP catchup....

This is what we woke up to...snow....after a 70 F day yesterday.....this winter really does not want to give up...

I was going to head to WEBS today, but the roads are a bit of a mess...there was a trailer accident and there is oil on one of the roads I need to pass and it's stop and go.....so I will head up there tomorrow...

On the reading front, I have been reading Beautiful Creatures...I saw the movie, it intrigued me, I downloaded the book...it's interesting, not the best book ever, but interesting....

Yesterday I took a look at my WIPs....or well some of them...last week I had taken this picture..
All those bags are filled with something....so I took stock....

My Rainbow Wings is no longer spaghetti and working on the fourth wedge now...

Ah, my Tutti-Frutti cowl...thinking this will be a gift..her birthday is coming up....

My Faces in the Wallpaper sock..I love this pattern, but I tried figuring out where I was on it last night and had to put it aside...it was too late and I was going to make a mistake...and some stitches had dropped off the needles, so it needs some repair work...

H's Everyday Socks....again I really love how these are turning out....

I just fell of the sock bandwagon and joined the shawl one....
Love this yarn...and the pattern, simple for me.....

Working on another baby hat...

and finally..my dissertation for this tournament....I haven't touched it since I did my gauge swatch...but last night, I did this...
Two of the bags were filled with leftover yarn, so I emptied those out...but I'm still missing a couple of projects bags...uhm.....

Joining in today...Tami and Yarn Along

UCONN

Our state university, The University of Connecticut, has done something no other university has done...they have won national titles in basketball for BOTH the women and the men!!!  Not only once, but twice!  First in 2004 and then again this year....they also won a national title this year in field hockey (I believe)...It's pretty exciting in our little state during March Madness!

This is the Women's 9th title!!!!!!!! And they went 40-0!!!!

This is the Men's 4th title!!!!

On Sunday, we decided to go to the celebratory parade!  What fun!
There were A LOT of people!!

I found my very own stepstool to stand on...

Here they come!!!!!

The women were first.......

Then the men....

there was a rally after, but we didn't go to that.....but what a fun way to spend the day!

YOP #15...and this happened.....

Spring Break...finally!  I have so much to do this week though...one of them is taxes...yep down to the last minute on those...we have been paying in the last couple of years, so I wait to do them.....since we don't have children or own a house, they are actually pretty easy to do..just a couple of hours...then I'll be doing some spring cleaning....I still have a few Santas up in a couple of corners...But I am also going to be crafting..and yesterday I sat down and tried to figure out what was wrong with Rainbow Wings...First wedge, 39 ridges, second wedge 50 ridges, third wedge 30 ridges...yeah...this happened...
I frogged it.....the Hubs said it looked like a mass of colorful spaghetti....but by the end of the night, we were back to here
Actually, I am on couple of rows into the second wedge.....I really want to wear this...so I am hoping to get the majority of it done this week....

I also made a baby hat and started on a second one.  But that was it.....I survived my very busy week and I can't wait to relax this week...beautiful weather, I opened the window for the first time yesterday....hopefully a trip to Northhampton, which will involve a stop at WEBS.....no big plans, just cleaning, relaxing and crafting...have a wonderful week all....

PITA

This Heartbleed thing is a pain in the arse.......seriously I just changed all of my passwords about 4 months ago....and there are some accounts I rarely use...like tumblr and instagram...I should just delete them...I don't really get them.....I just opened them when I got my new phone..but I never use them...

today is the first day of Spring Break, well technically Monday is...as I always have Saturday off....I am still in the pj's...I did some online shopping this morning...oh damn didn't change my etsy password...

I'm gonna spend the day trying to figure our what the hell I did wrong on my Wingspan...another PITA.....

So here's hoping everyone has a beautiful weekend.....

See the little pink one?  I just added it to my collection, seriously..who could walk by that face?

YOP #14...Just a little bit....

Yesterday I posted a Stash Saturday, but then I went shopping! And received another yarn club shipment...So I came home to this
Seriously, if you like color....you would love MadColor yarns....this is inspired by the Children of Lir folktale....

The other yarns I'm not going to show, as they are for my swap partner's gifty.....but they are sparkly...

So there is still something wrong with my Rainbow Wings....I must have put the stitch marker in the wrong place, as this wedge is significantly thinner than the other two...so I'm going to have to tink back....there is a permanent place marker and a traveling one...so I have to figure it out....

Other than that, not worked on anything, except swappy stuff and I can't show that yet...this week is 4 days of parent conferences, 3 half days, then night conferences...I also have my formal observation and then another informal observation for the special program I teach...and then next week..glorious spring break....I need it, the kids need it....

Stash Saturday

And yes, still adding to it.....

Came home last night to the latest Nerd Girl Random Fandom, inspired by Skeletor...so very sparkly!

And another club yarn:  Dizzy Color Sunnydale Patrol 1....I May Be Dead, but I'm still pretty..inspired by Season 1 Ep 12...Prophecy Girl...I love the stitch markers that have been included in this club..

Gifted from the Downton Abbey swap (more on that later)....local farm..Dinner at Downton..it's BFL...so pretty and squooshy!

This one I ordered from a team mate in Nerd Wars, SoftnShiny...it took quite a journey getting to me, as it ended up being returned to her....Naquadah....I recently bought a bunch of grey yarns...Junior year in high school, all I wore was grey....

I had to use my Jimmy Beans Wool credit before the end of March, hence..Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage in Technicolor Dreamcoat.....

And, OMG...I saw this color as a trim on a grey sweater on Ravelry and had to have it!  Edison Bulb on Tosh DK...

And so ends another Stash Saturday....fun conversation at lunch dinner yesterday...

Me:  I need to head to the yarn store, wonder if she's still open...
Friends(non-crafters):  Don't you have enough?
Me:  Well I'm making this (redacted) for a swap and need a certain yarn
Friends:  And you don't have it in all of your yarn?
Me:  Well no, I do have something, but it's really not the right color..
Friends:  Shaking heads....

Me?  Going to yarn store today.....then to watch friends bowl in a tournament...
