WIP's

I've been tackling my WIP's. The bags of unfinished projects on the side of my bed or in my spare room. I have tons. I have tons that I bought yarn for, but have not started. Right now I am working on the ladybug sweater...
I have all the pieces done, now to assemble it and edge it. I was going to try to do the spots and all, but think I'm just gonna edge it in black and see if I can find a ladybug applique to add to it...

I have added all the WIP's I hope to finish this summer in my sidebar. I just need to get some done.

Amish Auction

I've been asked by a couple of people about how the Amish felt about the picture taking. I asked Shelby before I took pictures and she said that many of the Amish in their area now have cell phones for their businesses and they take pictures of each other on them. They also have to use computers for some of the businesses. So although they still keep to many traditional ideas, some things have been loosened up. They still do not have phones in their homes or electricity, but are making use of some modern technology. She also said that there used to be signs asking not to take pictures of the quilts, but there were no signs up and noone asked me to stop taking pictures, which I would have done.

I have never been to an auction and it was pretty cool!

My quilt:

My friend, Amy's quilt: I really liked her quilt. It was one of the first ones that I liked when we previewed them, but I was moved to bid on the one I won. I bid on another one earlier, but dropped out as I wasn't in love with it. I did not get a picture of it.

Here are some of the quilts with some up close pictures. The one with them all hanging in plastic is how they were before the auction and you could take a look at them..There were many colors and sizes.

Wednesday Bullet

I'm gonna do two posts today: a bullet to catch up on things and then a separate post about the Amish auction.

- I got home on Monday from my friend's Shelby.

- Shelby lives in Pennsylvania, in the woods, at the foot of a mountain
(her house can't be seen, it's to the left of the house in picture, back in the woods, against the mountain)
- It was one of the most relaxing times I have had in a long time and I really needed it after this past school year.

- I have finished 3 books in 3 days. On Monday, I stopped for lunch and finished "The Little Stranger". I had visited a co-op with Shelby before I left and bought several books (most for my dad - as he is going through some medical things and could use the reading material), I started and finished "A Perfect Bride" by Samantha James. The only romances I read, historical. They are like candy, I usually finish in a day or two. Last night I picked up the Melissa Gilbert biography again and just finished it...I have not been reading the past couple of months and have tons of books to finish or even to open and start...


- I got some grape smelling yarn from Eskimimi. She is one of the people I have met on Rav and just started dying. She used Kool-Aid and it smells like Kool-Aid, yummy!

- I really have nothing else firmly planned for the summer. I'm going to go into NYC to meet Lori and I want to take a trip up to Plymouth, Mass, but haven't booked it yet.

- Gonna keep de-cluttering my house and stashing yarn and projects on Rav...

- I didn't buy any yarn in Pennsylvania, but I did buy a quilt...I brought yarn and gave some away to Shelby and Amy.

- Those huge marshmallows make messy s'mores!!!




- I visited with a former student yesterday. He is so grown-up. His mom worked in our building and they ended up moving to Chile for a couple of years and are now in Michigan.

- I bought new sheets to go with my quilt, as I didn't have any that matched.

- It has been raining since yesterday, we need it. It's stopping and becoming humid again - YUCK!

- I have to go pick up my niece and drop her off home and then I will do the Amish Auction post.

It is so quiet here....

I am visiting a friend. She lives in a log cabin on the side of a mountain, in the woods. The only noises I hear right now are the squirrels eating utside my window and a bird flying overhead calling...

I have seen deer also. They have two big flat rocks that they put corn out on...Occassionally they have a bear visit. The do have a stuffed bear in their living room.

Last night we ate around the campfire. I had a "mountain pie" and we had smores, with those giant marshmellows..it was alot of fun...I'll try to load some pictures later...

Today I went to an Amish auction...it was alot of fun! I bought a quilt.


I will post more pictures and a video of the auction when I get home.

Early Post ...and literature

Today I am heading off to visit some friends in Pennsylvania for a few days. Very excited about it, but not sure I'll post while there. The Hubs is staying home, he rarely goes visiting with me.....And I have found some yarn stores along the route!

Last night I watched a biography on public television about Agatha Christie. I've never read a Christie novel. I think I might pick one up at the library this summer, any recommendations???...

I admit, I read alot of popular writers...but I've not had a good history with the "so called" literary writers...I think I was turned off of most of them because of my English/American literature courses. When I read, I read for enjoyment. I don't want to look for symbolism and all that other malarkey. Honestly, when Fitzgerald was writing "The Great Gatesby" he thought oh I'll put a billboard up with giant glasses and they will symbolize blah, blah, blah...If I had to read that book one more time, I'd poke myself in the eyes with knitting needles (I think I read it in every American lit class from high school through college)...and "The Old Man and the Sea" - Gag!

Is there a literary author that you would recommend? I do enjoy Jane Austen, but have not read any Bronte (I own Jane Eyre, but haven't read it) I love Louisa May Alcott and recently bought one of her adult novels...I will read just about any genre. I love historical stuff and I'm trying to get back into science fiction. I read alot of it when I was younger, but kinda dropped it as an adult...

It was slooowwww getting into it, but I'm enjoying it now. It got lots of really great reviews and Stephen King said it was the best of 2009. And I love Stephen King. The ghosty part of the story has really just started and I'm about half way through....can't wait to see where it goes (and I will read last pages of books, but am holding myself off!)

It's Cooling Off....

Hmmm, but still hot in my computer room. Just put up another fan...

And speaking of fans, I am a fan of Colin Firth. I was commenting on Lori's blog. She just watched A Single Man with Colin Firth. I forgot it was coming out this past week. Which is funny, cuz I stalked Blockbuster for it, it took awhile for a release date to be announced. I haven't seen it, as it didn't play near me....But I just counted and I own 24 Colin Firth movies.....


It all started with Mr. Darcy, but then I realized he was the cad in "A Circle of Friends" and I love that movie (but haven't been able to get it on DVD) Now I pretty much buy all of his movies, except "The Last Legion" It was bad, just bad, and nothing more can be said....I'm sure I'll buy it at some point when I see it somewhere for a couple of bucks, cuz I need a complete collection...

Now I don't think he is the most handsome or the best actor out there, but I just adore him. He does have the best posture of any actor...and he doesn't take himself too seriously, he has fun with some of his roles (the end scene w/Rupert Everett in St. Trinian's is hysterical!) I just really like him as an actor....Is there anyone you really like???

And yes, I went yarn shopping again - bad girl, bad girl....


4 skeins Koigu. I have yet to make anything from this yarn, but it has such pretty, pretty colors (sorry pics are a bit dull) and 1 skein of Madelinetosh Isadora (lace) in Prairie. It was just so pretty and soft...think it's gonna be a shawl...
