The Other Nice Thing...

that the Hubs did this year was plant me flowers. I like having fresh flowers, but they get expensive.

So the Hubs went through the Burpees catalog and picked out flowers to plant...

Our first sunflower has just opened. It's called a "Teddy Bear." The Hubs thinks "it's stinking cute!" I agree....

Obviously, he's the gardener too......

Cooking....

I don't cook...never have liked it...and I am such a picky eater, tend to eat the same stuff... I don't eat onions, peppers, mushrooms, olives, hot sauces, not a fan of many sauces, no orange vegetables, except carrots and don't really like those cooked, not many yellow vegetables, I like corn...

Funny, but I love spinach!!! But not anything really in the cabbage family....but I will eat the veggies I like....

So many times, when the Hubs has to work at night, like today, this was the conversation:

Hubs: There is a casserole in the refrigerator from my sister (it drives my in-laws nuts that I am picky, but they send food cuz Hubs helps at the Homestead) You will eat it, it's meatballs, pasta, etc...

Me: Okay

Hubs: I'd take it out at 3 and let it set for about an hour then bake it for an hour...

Me: Okay - what temperature?

Hubs: I'd cook it at 400..

Me: Okay...

So I just took it out of the oven... The Hubs had added shredded cheese to the top, or maybe it was SIL....

But must say, I am spoiled....he did make me breakfast today, too...(I love breakfast foods and will eat almost all, as long as not mixed with the aforementioned)

I'll eat pretty much any meat, not a big fan of fish, but will eat some, really love potatoes, (as I posted previously)

I'm all about the carbs and thus really need to get back to the gym.....

A Couple of Finishes

I have two finishes, well technically three....The green cowl was made with Katia yarn. The Hubs bought it for me when he signed me up for a knitting class as a Christmas gift (I sent him the link) Anyway I had knitted it and pulled it out so much, it was getting ratty looking. So I made a crocheted cowl with it. I like it alot, still deciding if I will put a snap in it for the other end. I may wear it first (when it gets cold) and see if it needs one....

The purple and brown cowl and hat were made with Nashua Paradise. I saw a cowl made with it at Country Yarns and really liked it. I started a hat, but didn't have enough yarn. As I had already sewn on the button, I decided to match the brown in the button. So the brown is Berroco Ultra Alpaca....Not sure I like the Paradise, as it already seems to be pilling and I haven't even worn it yet....

I've never worn a cowl before, but have made a couple for this fall/winter...

Today I am staying home, probably pj'ing it and working on WIP's to see what else I can finish....Also will continue to stash some things on Ravelry...

Yarn Saturation

Can you reach a yarn saturation point? I buy a lot of yarn, I like yarn, I hoard yarn, but I think I have reached my yarn saturation point.

This doesn't mean that I won't wake up tomorrow feeling differently....

Since the beginning of July (and there were a few in June) I have visited 14 local yarn stores. Nine in Connecticut, one in Rhode Island, three in New York City and Webs in Massachusetts. I have also purchased a skein online from Canada and one from the UK. I also bought some yarn at a Joanne's sale....

The Hubs asked if I feel as if I have to buy something when I go into a yarn store. No, I don't feel obligated to buy and I have left without buying, but it's rare...

One reason I have been visiting so many yarn stores, is I am trying to get a comprehensive, updated list for Connecticut. I will put this on a separate blog or just a page on my blog....

This is my haul from the past month....It is missing one of the lavender skeins in the front, as it is already on the hook....

There are still two more yarn stores in CT, I would like to visit before school starts in two weeks.

ETA: I posted this about 10:45 in the morning. It is now almost 2:30 and that yarn is still on my bed. I just took pictures to upload to Rav. They will be a little dark, but didn't feel like lugging it all out to the porch. I already uploaded the stats yesterday, so just need to do the pics...

Another Book Down and Vermont

I finished another book that has been sitting on my bedside table for months. This one was "Android's Dream" by John Scalzi. I loved his book "Old Man's War" and this one was good too. It's science fiction and what was cool about it was they were in search of a sheep to save Earth. There were lots of twists and turns, but it kept me reading. I did have to reread a few times, because there were alot of characters, many that only lasted a page or two....I took it with me on Monday to read on the train to NYC, as I didn't feel like crocheting or knitting...

On Saturday I went to Vermont to visit with a couple of friends. Danae owns a cabin up there...There is no tv, no internet service or cell service....So we beaded and hung around talking. It was fun...

On the way back we visited Quechee GorgeIt was neat. here are some pics from the weekend...

Day Date with the Hubs...

Yesterday, on my birthday, the Hubs and I headed to Massachusetts. I wanted to go to Webs, to look for a new Namaste bag. I've been wanting an olive one...I have the Zuma bag in eggplant - which I love (although the Hubs says it looks like a bowling bag) I have the Laguna bag in pink - which I don't love. So yesterday I bought (well the Hubs bought it) the Hermosa bag in olive! I really like their bags. My Hermosa is going to be strictly my knitting bag...I don't have alot of knitting stuff yet, but it is getting there...

I also purchased a Lantern Moon needle case. I really like Lantern Moon products, their crochet hooks are a dream to use. I bought two sets of their circular needles while there.

I also purchased Cat Bordhi's book. The only reason I started to learn to knit was because I want to make socks. Her book looks really good. I know, I should learn more than the knit stitch before I even think about socks, but I really liked how the book was put together...

Yes, I bought yarn, but it has been overcast today, so not a good yarn picture taking day...Also I have bought ALOT of yarn in the past two weeks and it's all over...I need to organize it a bit and stash on Ravelry...

We also went to the The Yankee Candle Factory Store I had never been there, but the Hubs had....I got a new Santa. I didn't buy one last year, but they had one, we both liked....It was a great day!

Exhausted and a Day Behind...

I've been thinking it's August 1 all day - well DUH! It's August 2, which means it's my birthday tomorrow!!! (Ya' say it's your birthday - well it's my birthday too!!!)

I went into the big NYC today to do some yarn crawling with Lori, a Ravelry friend I met online....I had a WONDERFUL day!!!!
We took pictures of each other taking pictures....

We went to Purl Soho, Habu and School Products. Lori has a great writeup of our day over on her blog, Thrums. Check it out!

I am utterly, bone-drained EXHAUSTED, so I will post more tomorrow (maybe after my trip to WEBS) and there will be yarn goodies!!!!!
