Stitch Along Week 33
Well it's back to work, so back to posting these on Tuesday night....
I have done very little, except start my Wonder Woman shawl....that is so awesome!
I am tired and hot...it is steamy right now in the computer room...and after two days of unpacking my classroom....I am exhausted!!!!
So I will say...talk amongst yourselves" and I'll be back next week....

Lowell Mills
My friend, Deirdre, recently took a class where they visited The American Thread Company in Willimantic, CT and did a play based on the Lowell Mills in Lowell, Mass.
I've always had an interest in mills, as my ancestors came from Canada to work in the mills, including The American Thread Company.
I also kept this tradition up by working at Charles House and Sons in Unionville, Ct while I was going to college. I worked third shift in the weaving room. Eventually I moved to the winding/spinning room. The mill was demolished several years ago.
So on Tuesday, Deirdre and I went to visit the Lowell Mills, which is a national park, too.
It was a great tour and a beautiful building!
They offer a trolley from the welcome center to the actual mill site....
This is the Boott Mills, a cotton mill built in 1835
The staircase that the workers would climb every morning.
The weaving room...it was kind of like being home...I spent almost three years on the weaving floor. We met the lady, I asked her name and forgot it, sorry, who works the mill..she actually works in several mills...
The looms are on the ground floor, where they were eventually moved because they would, at times, actually move the building...they had been on the fourth floor.
The second floor has the museum part....
These were AMAZING! They were WOVEN scenes..there were several, but these were my favorites.
There are two exhibits, the actual mill and then a boarding house, where the mill workers or "mill girls" would live
All in all, it was a great visit! We both really enjoyed it. So if you ever get a chance to visit, do...
Also...North and South is on Netflix, about cotton mills in the north of England. It is based on a book by Elizabeth Gaskell
Lyddie by Katherine Paterson
So Far From Home by Barry Denenburg (part of the Dear America Scholastic books)
Hellfire by John Saul ( a ghost story)
I've read or watched these, but there are many more...some have been on my list to read....to be honest...the John Saul book is the one that has stayed with me the longest...I read that when I was a teenager....

Stitch Along: Week 32
Good morning! Yes, it's morning...I forgot about this last night and I was exhausted too...I had spent the day in Lowell, Mass with a friend visiting museums.....
So I've been working a bit on the same ole, same ole....but did decide to cast on a couple new socks...because I'm at the heel for most of my socks and deciding which ones to do...sigh....
So my Dia de los muertos....
Yarn is from Desert Vista Dyeworks...I'd lost the tag AND hadn't put it in my Stash, so had to do some sleuthing on that one!
And these are from Nerd Girl Yarns...influenced by Wicked, hence the Wizard of Oz bag....can't think of name and too lazy to go look it up....
Think today we are heading to Northampton, we may stop in Springfield to got to the Seuss museum....but we'll see....toodles...

Stitch Along: Week 31
Good morning! I hope you are having a lovely week....I think this may be my last real week of vacation, as I hope to get into my classroom for setup next week some time....
I've really not done much this past week at all....This week is GISHWHES...the last one and I've been doing some of those items..and spending time with the Hubs....
Yesterday I watched a movie being made in my city....AC Slater, Mario Lopez was in town!
He looked right at me! Or in my direction.....this was during the rehearsal...I didn't take a picture during the actual filming...it was all very exciting...Melissa Joan Hart is also in the movie, but I couldn't get a good picture of her....
I spent about an hour last night trying to identify a cake of yarn...I knew it had to do with Dia de Los Muertos and I find out it was Desert Vista Dyeworks.....
So that has been my week...how about yours? I seem to have loss lots of the people who link up...hopefully they'll come back as fall comes in...

Stitch Along Wednesday Week 30
Good morning! I just woke up and am still in bed, but know I need to get this up, since I flaked last week....I apologize for that.....
I went to NYC yesterday for Knitty City's Knitting in Bryant Park....so I'm a little sore today....
I met Gisela, who will be 91 this month! She is still very active, coming in from Forest Park almost every week for the event! She had just finished teaching a wellness class that morning!!!!!
So I brought my Miss Winkle to work on...
Sorry just took that picture on my bed.....
And socks as always! I'm, of course, at the heel, of several.....
So what about you, what do you have going on? As always, please link back...thanks!
