The 2019 Yarn Crawl of The Western Connecticut Yarn Council Haul

So last Saturday, my yarny BFF, Maureen and I headed out.  I had gone to New England Yarn on Friday after work.  It's pretty much down the street from my school.  It's a couple of miles, but seriously, it's only one turn)

I didn't take any pictures on the crawl...I wasn't feeling the best, but YARN!!!!  I made it to six of the stores altogether.  I didn't make it to Nancy O, but had recently been there as part of the Hudson Valley Yarn Crawl.

I'm lucky that there are many yarn crawls throughout the year within about 2 hours of me....
If you spent a certain amount, you received the bag, but all stores were handing out the pins.  I was surprised that there were a couple of stores not participating.....but 7 was enough....Hudson Valley had 15, there was no way I was making all of those stores....

So my haul:
At New England Yarn, I bought some Malabrigo...I needed orange yarn, blame it on GG.....So got some Glazed Carrots in Rios, along with Archeangel, because it looked vaguely Halloweeny....and then I wanted the WYS Owl colorway and bought the contrast colorway.  I am now on the lookout for their Christmas colorway this year.

Saturday morning, we headed to Avon, we started east and headed west....
I bought another set of Uneek sock yarn, although they did not have the one I wanted....and this Malabrigo book of hats...I want to make Estrella, but they didn't have any Mecha...I also got to pick a prize, so won this skein of Araucania Nuble, which is wool and silk, but not my color particularly and it is very fingering....but I'm sure I'll find something to do with it...or give it away, or sell it...who knows..
Then I got these giant balls of Noro for a poncho that was on display in the store, called the Chevron Wrap.  The pattern is in the magazine...I think I will wear the hell out of it.....
Okay, the third store is one of my favorites, but nothing was speaking to me!!!!!  I finally settled on some LadyDyeYarns, which I had been waiting to arrive.  I thought about making a cowl with this, but just realized I can make the Hatdana with this and it'll be awesome.  I had bought some Uneek for the Hatdana, but have no idea where it might be right now....and the pom-pom is an awesome Hunter green!

So we headed to Westport, as Maureen had never been to that store...they were having a trunk show of Swift Yarns.  I had never heard of this indie dyer.  So I bought this awesome mustardy yellow tweed for a hat.  I also bought this group of minis.  She had a sock sample made from them....but I'm probably use them for heels and cuffs.  I think she may have been disappointed when I mentioned that...We'll see...

The last store, we just made it in time, and again we went there because Maureen had never been there.  We just missed Gabi of Once Upon a Corgi's trunk show....I was bummed, I would have gotten some of her yarn, but I bought a cool June Pryce bag...dudes...chickens and llamas, what could be better?

I also got to pick from a basket at one of the stores, don't remember which, but got a set of Zing dpns...

So that was last Saturday.  This Saturday, I am recharging...we had Open House this week, I had a union meeting...I'm a union rep in my building...we had student convocation...it was exhausting and I've used up my stores of energy...with the auto-immune disease, I occasionally have to recharge.  I finished my book this morning..and then blogged...now I'm going to wind some yarn...and crochet on my poncho...and maybe take another nap...ta-ta for now

Year of Projects: Week 38

Good morning!   How was your week?  Being back at school, I'm so exhausted when I get home, that I pretty much eat and go to bed.  I'm in bed by 8 o'clock, 9 at the very latest.

This year with my class being so low academically, I have to figure out new ways to reach them...so later today I will be planning for several hours....

But, yesterday I went on a yarn crawl.  We actually have quite a few yarn crawls in my area.  This one is the Western Connecticut Yarn Council Yarn Crawl.   A couple weeks back I hit up the Hudson Valley Yarn Crawl, made it to (I think) 5 stores out of 15....

Yesterday we did 5 stores too...I had done a 6th store after school on Friday, but there are 7 stores, so I don't get to put in for the grand prize.  I'm not going back out today to the last store, plus I was just there for the Hudson Valley one....I did not take any pictures, so not like me!

But the big thing in almost all the stores was Noro Ito yarn. I guess they've repackaged it...
I put my hand in for a comparison.  It is 400 m or 437 yards,  I'm going to make an asymmetrical wrap from their magazine.  It's called the Chevron Wrap, but doesn't seem to be on Ravelry. It was a store sample.....store samples help sell yarn!

So what about my projects?  Well I got my Lamb's Pride from WEBS and added some more stripes.

So I added from the orange stripe down last night.  Four full stripes and I started on the red, but had to go to sleep....I have one more bright green and then I'm starting the sequence over again...The pattern only has one sequence, but I want it longer, so going to do another sequence.  My husband says it looks like a sombrero.  LOL

And some more rows on my socks.  That's about it.....

Year of Projects: Week 37

Good morning!  I am here again...and I crafted this week!  Nothing finished, but picked up some languishing projects....

My view form the Yarn Loft this morning.   I wrote about the Yarn Loft earlier this week, if you'd like to take a peek.

So I have been working on my Zombody's Eating Candy Corn socks...the yarn is from Desert Vista Dyeworks...I love her Zombie series and need to order more....
The bag is an Otterly Adorable bag...it has orange with black polka dots inside.  Love it!

I pulled out my Brainzzzz hat to work on.  I never started a Ravelry project page for it....I was bad about that last year, but again..lots of stuff going on.....I have a small blue marker at where I was on the i-cord brains...oh I've never done I-cord before this!   This is the pattern I used....I need 20-24 FEET of I-Cord!!!!! I have no idea how much I have, but not nearly enough!

The bag is a Jessalu bag.....

I added six stripes on my Throwback Poncho.....and again I don't have a project page!  I am using Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Worsted for it.  This is the pattern I am using  I'm hoping this will be finished by Rhinebeck...but I wanted an orange stripe and my LYS did not have orange, so I ordered and orange and a fuchsia from Webs...it'll be here this week....It's very a very easy watching tv project...

So that is all for me this week.....I'm going to have to go back through my social media to see if I can figure out when I started these projects and  make a Ravelry page....Oh, the poncho is on my list!  The Brainzzzz hat I know I started in October of last year....just added it to the list...

The Yarn Loft

So when we moved to the Homestead, we first slept in what had been my sister-in-law's room.  There are four bedrooms in the house, two upstairs and two downstairs.

My FIL was in the room downstairs that was my husband's room when he lived here.
This is the last picture of him.  After he passed, we painted the room a teal color.....My husband uses it when he is changing clothes to work in the chicken yard, the garden or on the property, so it's a mess and I don't have a picture of it now...I found one when it was painted, but it's dark
The other room downstairs is what they called "the den"  Right now, we just dump things in that room that we don't know what to do with....it is also the "pantry" as the closet is a bunch of shelves.

So we slept in what was his sister's room.  I now call it our room, as I'm trying to make this more ours, but he will still call is Kelli's room, on occasion....
It's a work in progress.  We are still bringing our things over from the other house.  We had just bought a house last year.  A two family house.  So now we are going to rent it out...but since we are still cleaning out this house, not all of our stuff is here...I do have a corner in that room for this..
And we decided that my MIL's room would be my craft room - Yarn Loft.  The room is a loft.  I get up before my husband and it's too noisy.  It is also very warm in the room!

So we had to move the bed out before I could really do anything with the room. So now there is a bed in the teal room, that can be used for visitors....or when one of us is sick...LOL....
And I've worked on turning this into a more usable space.  It is also my "dressing room"  The two closets have my clothes, as well as the two bureaus...
So the bed is gone.  I have an antique rocking chair.  Larry thinks his great uncle Bill probably made it.  I bought the little end table to have someplace to put my tea and my Zombie yarn bowl.  The sheepskin is from my stepfather and is probably 30 years old.  The room does get good light, but not for a long time...
So this area has changed a bit...I took off some of the baskets and added some other things to the top....The floor in front has a picture that needs to be hung and some bags with WIPs and my Namaste bag that holds my circulars.
I found this storage unit at Michaels, it's for markers and pens.  I thought it would be perfect for DPNs...not all of mine are there (many are on projects)  I also want to get elastics to keep the sets together, but haven't done that yet...my Legos are on top....The open area holds my stitchmarkers/progress keepers.  That green glass bowl I bought at an antique store.  It might have been an ash tray.  The drawers hold measuring tapes, scissors, row counters, etc....

Next to it is a 4 compartment holder.  It has my 9"in circulars in it, since I use those the most and some longer DPNs.   Then I have glass jar of sample minis and a vase holding my straights.....
My sheep collection and two baskets of already wound yarn and thicker yarn....Those three cubbies underneath are all self-stripe yarn...
Yes, we have a rotary phone upstairs that still works...my llama lamp and near it is my alpaca yarn bowl...
This area is mostly commercial yarn, which I use for my amigurami and some baby items...see that yellow and brown striped bag?  That was gifted to me in a swap...It's the Yellow Brick Road.  It is filled with Brown Sheep, as I am making a throwback poncho with Brown Sheep Worsted.

To the side is a quilt stand my MIL had (she had two) and I use it to dry my socks after washing...
My MIL's cedar chest, which is filled with WIPs...this is where I blog, listen to podcasts and wind yarn....I also have my blue yarn bowl here, which I recently received in a swap. And then my tubs start...
I have twenty tubs of various sizes and also some bags and baskets...and then the yarn caddy in front.  I probably have 6-10 more tubs at the other house.  And in our garage I have a bunch of tubs with big box yarn in it....sigh
This bookshelf probably holds 5% of my craft books....we are not sure where are going to put our -books.  The Hubs and I are READERS and we have lots of books.....there is a built-in floor to ceiling bookshelf in "the den" but we are not using it yet...because it has to be cleaned out...
My bags from various vendors/shops....
And the top of my bureau has my POPS, my mystery minis (I have more) and my bad-ass females..and some okay guys too.....

The Yarn Loft is the two windows on the second floor.   The Teal room are the windows to the right on the ground floor.

This house was built to my MIL's specifications.  She saw the plans for this house in a newspaper when she was younger, she cut them out and saved them.  When they got the land and built the house, she gave the plans to the contractor....and low The Homestead was born (they did not call it that, but the Hubs and I have called it that for years)

Hope you've enjoyed this little tour....it is a still a work in progress...I want a comfy chair for the Loft, but that will have to wait for now.....

Year of Projects: Week 36

Good morning!  Last week lots of pictures, this week....none...First week back to school, I was exhausted!  Plus I'm on the end of my infusion cycle...my next infusion is on Monday....so I was dealing with some pain too.....so I did very little crafting...I made one more water bottle coaster and added a few rows to my Venetian Cowl...but it doesn't look much different, just a bit longer....

I have a great bunch of kids, however we are still in the "honeymoon" phase!  I did go down one student, as she moved.  I do have a very needy class this year, probably the most needy
 I've ever had....
Since I have my infusion tomorrow, I will only be in school for a half day, but getting ready for a substitute is so much work!

So I guess that is about it.....see you next week!

Year of Projects, Week 35

Good Sunday morning my friends!  This is a holiday weekend in the US....so the students start back on Tuesday...I'm as ready as I'll ever be....
I'm doing something called Flexible Seating this year.  So the children will not have assigned desks, heck some won't even have a desk...I have the option of desks or tables, or there are some options for sitting on the floor.  My Mom came in on Friday and helped for a couple of hours.  She organized my non-fiction library..which is a BIG job..it took her about 2 hours....

So there were some questions about the Beach Bag...I don't have it at the Homestead, so I'll grab it when I go back to the house for a better picture...It is made with Lily Sugar and Cream cotton, it is not a striping yarn, so there are ends and it is really tough on the hands...the pattern is called Jaunty Shells  As it is crochet, it has left holes, hence the need for a lining....I made it years ago, but have yet to line it...I have used it as is on occasion...

Since I was setting up the classroom and attending PD, I didn't have a ton of time for crafting..and was exhausted most days.  Slept 10+ hours one night!!!  But I have done a few water bottle coasters...My room is extrememly hot all year, so the kids bring in water bottles.  I've started making coasters for them.  I have 7 made previously and made 3 more this week....just a simple crochet rectangle..
Again made with Lily Sugar and Cream cotton...I have a tub of it! I don't know why I bought so much, but I did....anyone want some???  I have not woven in the ends yet.....

I got both of my Christmas second socks to the heel.....
And a few more rows on the Monster Mash socks...trying to decide how long I want them.  I tend to make them about 7 inches....these might bag or slouch...I think they are going to be a bit big around...but my gosh, I love this yarn!

Oh and a quick picture of the two finished samples...they are on their way to their destination now...

So that is about it....first week of school, not sure if I'll get much done this week....we shall see....
