Shark Week aka Sock Week

Have you heard about sock week?  Did you sing the song?  I don't even have kids and I sang the song...doo-do.....

Knitty Natty and Malia Made It got together to put this knitalong together.  The goal is to knit an adult sized sock in one week.

I bought the yarn from Malia Made It because self stripe!  The end of day 1:
I didn't work on it yesterday.  I was running around most of the day.  Today I'm not planning on doing much.  It's going to be a hot and humid day here, so I'll work on it more today...

I have bought two other "shark kits"  They've been in my stash for awhile.   Shark Bite 1 is all kinds of cool, but also some intarsia, which I've never done.....so it will probably stay in my stash for awhile.  I bought the kit from Unplanned Peacock Studio back in 2015.
Although I am using the stitch marker from the kit, as it's a little shark.  The stitch marker came from The Clay Sheep.

Shark Bite II: The Revenge came out in 2017 and I have the kit from Lorna's Laces.  This one I'm sure I can do.....

If you noticed, I also have a shark bag...
I special ordered it last year, during Shark Week from The Striped Tangerine....

I hope you enjoy shark week....and

check my progress daily on Instagram...

Year of Projects: Year 6, Week 30

Good morning!  (I'm actually on top of this and writing it Saturday night!)  I don't have any finishes this week, but I do have a couple of cast-ons...
Started a new sock...Wanted something mindless for the train trip into NYC...went to a trunk show for LolaBean Yarn in Brooklyn....

the yarn is all the way from Scotland from Fibre Punk called Merfolk.  I had seen it on someone's feed on Instagram and ordered it.  The dyer was on vacation, but sent me some stitch markers since it was shipped a bit late.  He really didn't have to do that.  He was also offering a 15% code for #queietqueercraftalong...I hadn't seen the code before ordering, but he refunded me the 15%...that was so great of him....
This is the beginning of the Mixed Pompom Hat from Loopy Mango.  I bought the yarn on a recent yarn crawl....

If you'd like to see some of my other recent acquisitions, please pop over to yesterday's post...

That's about it...I had a tough week...I had a two day pain flare and then it took me two days to feel normal again...then I headed to NYC on Friday and Saturday spent the day letting my ankle recover....but I also did some cleaning up of pictures and projects..and cast on that hat....

Oh, I've also been reading Red Bones, the third book in the Shetland series from Ann Cleeves.  I love the tv series and I'm loving the books!  None of the local libraries have the fourth book, so I may pop over to Barnes and Noble today to grab it (I'm writing this Saturday night and think I'm going to finish it.- eta: I did)

Ta-ta for now...back to the book!

Stash Acquisition Saturday

Well it's been a really long time since I have done a stash update....during my several months hiatus, I acquired a lot of stash.  I am not going to post it all....because it would just be such a long post....

Yesterday I went into New York City, actually Brooklyn to attend a trunk show....
This is Felicia, she owns String Thing Studio in Brooklyn.  If you are ever in NYC, it is worth the trip to her store.  I've been several times now.  She is the most friendly and nice person.  She treats us as family, even thought we only make it maybe once a year....(sometimes twice)...it's a destination store!

Anyway, we were there to meet Adella of LolaBean Yarn.  I've been frinds with her online for awhile and wanted to meet her.
I bought a couple skeins...I want o make a quick, easy raglan sweater, two toned....any suggestions?

The lighter color is Un Coco Loco and the darker is Dobby.
Dobby is a bit darker than what is showing up onscreen.

I also picked up some Juniper Farm Zooey, as I want to make a linen shell...but again, no pattern in mind.....
The purple is Purple Rain and the tan is All Spice.  It's a 60% cotton, 40% linen.  I just want a basic shell.....

And then there is this
This is Shark in the Water by Malia Mayed It.....she and knittynatty are doing a "sockweek" to go along with Shark Week!  It's mostly a knitalong...to knit one sock in a week....this is a self stripe yarn....I'll be winding this up today to cast on tomorrow....

Someone I have been buying from online quite a bit is Hue Loco...

So these are from her Backyard Chickens collection, and well we now have 56 backyard chickens, so I had to....The brown is Golden Laced Wyandotte, the greenish pink is Speckled Sussex (which we have) and the red is Barnvelder...such gorgeous colors, these are rooster colors, the other two are hen colors.....
The Barnvelder again....so pretty.....I have also got her Game of Thrones women mini skeins and a couple of other skeins.....

I also went on a Yarn Crawl.....it is still going on...a couple of friends and I went on a Saturday...
It's called the Hudson Valley Yarn Trail 2019 Yarn Crawl....there are 15 stores or farms....We went to five on that day...we visited Stars Hollow (which is my LYS now), Nancy O, Pick Up Every Stitch, Loopy Mango and Beetle and Fred.
I'm not going to list them all, but it was a great day.....

I think this is it for now.....until next time, because we all know there will be a next time...

Year of Projects, Year 6, Week 29

Good afternoon.....teacher here on summer break...I forget what day of the week it is.....so I'm updating kind of late....

But I have a finish! A pair of socks, just not a matching pair. Although my besties, Deirdre would wear them like this....me, I'm a matchy-matchy and my socks have to match...
The thinner stripe is Mothy and the Squid and the thicker is White Birch...I have lots of White Birch!  I immediately cast on their mates, and they will be my travel knitting....but I have so many more I want to cast on!

Then we have these
They are way too big for me.....I did a 1x1 ribbed cuff, I usually do a 2x2.....The needles were new, Zing, but the same size I normally use...Occassionaly a regular stockinette stitch will just be too big on me.

Although I am fat, I am small bone structured and my ankles and calves are skinny...My father used to say he didn't know how I walked on those toothpicks!  So I really need a sock with some grip, which is why I mainly do Vanilla Latte...what other sock patterns do you know that fit this bill....This is also why I don't do too many patterned socks....My Hermione's Everyday pair are huge on me.....but I still wear them...with boots.....I know I can fudge that one to make it smaller...I think I did the cast-on suggestion of 64, I now know I need to do 56 (or smaller)....and yes I know there are some patterned socks that pull in, most of them tend to have cables...and I don't do cables well, yet....

I tried to save the cuffs, but you can see how much bigger they are....

And I added the heel and turn to another sock...
The yarn is called Sunny Skies, the dyer is either no longer dyeing or online.....so I took the rainbow repeat from my extra yarn from a White Birch skein...I'm going to love these...

I did a few rounds on the sleeve of the elephant sweater, but it's a bajillion degrees and we have no a/c at the Homestead...so it's really only been picking up the socks when I'm not too sweaty.....

And some people were interested about the Homestead....I did start a blog about it...but it's been slow going....our driveway is a 1/4 mile through the trees.....we have wifi, but it sucks....it's almost like having dial-up again...we have no other option, as the driveway is too long...we were told we would need to pay about $10,000 to lay the underground wires...yes, that is not happening.....so loading pictures takes a looooong time!  I will get there and let you know when it is up.....

So no real finishes this week, but lots of sock knitting....

Year of Projects: Year 6, Week 28

Hellooooooo It's been many, many weeks....I thought I was coming back a couple of weeks ago, but it just didn't happen...sigh...I lost my crafting mojo for a long time...I've also been dealing with a personal issue that has been very frustrating and I just wasn't crafting....I started back up at the end of May.   I worked on socks, as I have a ton of them started, but didn't finish any....I also started a shawl...I just wanted a garter stitch shawl...and look at that I finished it....It is not blocked yet

I also finished a birthday gift for a friend's daughter.  I asked her what she wanted and she wanted a zebra!  So I made a zebra....the pattern is Zane the Zebra...you can just google it...it is linked on Ravelry, but is not a pdf, it's in a blog post....

I'm sure Lucy will change the name.....

I've also worked on Lucy's Elephant sweater.  I have 1.5 sleeves, ribbing and buttons and then it is done!

So while I took a long break, I have been knitting or crocheting everyday for the past couple of weeks...I'm glad to be back.......
