Year of Projects: Week 38

Look at me, two weeks in a row!  And I have knitting content.  I still have not had a ton of knitting mojo, but the weather finally cooled down on Thursday!  So it's bearable now to have woolly goodness in my hands...

I have been fighting the exhaustion part of my disease this week....I've been in bed between 8 and 8:30 pretty much all week....I'm also congested, so that doesn't help...if it's not one thing....I got the flu shot for the first time last year and I suppose I should get it again.  It's recommended because of my compromised immune system.

But I did pick up a couple of socks last night and put some heels on them.  So I am trying out the Fish Lips Kiss heel, but am having issues with holes.  I do pull the last stitch as recommended, but the issue is when I go back to working with the main color...So attaching the heel back to work in the round, I get a hole...how can I fix that?  I know I can go back and close it, but how do I fix it while knitting..
So I actually put on two heels, one of the yellow yarn and now both heels are on my Irish socks...I am knitting these concurrently...I think that is the way I will knot most of my socks from now on..
I had done one heel already, which I hadn't realized until I pulled them out of the bag..so onto the feet! I'll have another pair done before the end of the year....
Then I put my first heel on my dia de los muertos socks....the red from mini skein from Two Sisters matches perfectly the red in the  Desert Vista Dyeworks.

I have to order some more mini skeins, but that will be it until Rhinebeck....

So my finished list for this year remains the same...

I love all your stripey socks! I don't have an answer for holes other than picking up an extra stitch like the afterthought.

I love all your socks, when I work a heel flap and gusset I tend to pick up an extra stitch in each corner, I'm not sure if this will work for a FLK as I don't use that heel, but it may be worth trying.

I know how frustrating holes in heels are. I have often put in an extra stitch and then knit two together in the first round, or knit the stitch twisted in the first round. I think also Cat Bordhi talks about pulling the yarn tight not just on the first stitch, but on the second stitch as well. Usually though if all else fails I just ladder up an extra stitch, or repair hole when the socks are done.

I just looked at my FLK heel instructions. I wonder if it is because you used a separate color for the heel instead of the color of the leg/foot? No where does it mention what to do if you want contrasting colors. I have never changed colors for my heels so I am just guessing. Is there a way to get this question to the creator of this method? I would love to know too.

Your socks look great. I hope you find the solution to the holes. I'm of no help. I just love to see all the cool socks you knitters make. So I'm cheering you and have confidence you will conquer!

I usually just pick up a stitch from one or two rows below to close the hole, but I do not always succeed with that. If you use contrasting heels anyway, you can use the tail from that new colour to sew the hole close?
I love how the bright yellow heels look in the green socks, very pretty!

Sorry, I have no suggestions for you, I have never tried the FLK heel with a contrast colour. Fun to see all the socks in progress! Really like the bright stripes with black, and the red mini is the perfect contrast!

Potential sock hole solution: Add an extra one and K2togtbl OR just ktbl for the sts surrounding that spot.

Sorry about the holes. Get well soon. Glad you feel good enough to knit.

I do as many of the commenters do: always pick up a stitch at the two ‘corners’ and knit them twisted. I throw a twisted stitch in any time there is a bigger gap than I want in my knitting. It blends in and the twist magically fills in the hole.

Love all your socks, but your dia de los muertos socks are my favorite! Awesome colors. I can't knit my way out of a paper bag, so sorry I have no help with the holes. Hope you have a productive, healthy week this week!
