Fibery Weekend

I’m heading out tomorrow morning for a fibery weekend.  I’m actually taking a personal day on Monday to extend the weekend (we have to take them before the end of the year or we lose them)

The Hubs is staying home, as he just barely survived The Great Rhody Crawl.  Now if I really wanted him to come with me, he would.  But we all need some alone time and while I wouldn’t mind if he came, I’m good going on my own, too…

First I’m hitting up WEBS.  Their tent sale is this weekend.  I’ve never been to the tent sale, so not sure what to expect, except some fibery goodness….The Hubs gave me a generous gift card from there for Christmas, so I’m good!

Then I’m going to head further north and visit the New Hampshire Sheep and Wool on Sunday.  It’s going to be raining, so I get to wear my cool rain boots!  I’m also going to visit with some family I haven’t seen in awhile….

Then I’ll head back home on Monday…I told someone at work I was heading off for the weekend and she said, “It is a yarny thing?”  LOL, they know me so well!!!!!

I’ll take plenty of pictures, plus I have to take a bunch as I’m participating in  the Nerd Wars: Scavenger Hunt over at Ravelry.

Now to go figure out what projects to take with me!  That’s more stressful than clothes…I have to have some nerdy clothes for some of the pics…

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I’ll post all about mine on Monday..

Next week is Spirit Week at school.  On Wednesday is Nerd Day…I prefer GEEK…I have the perfect shirt and I’m shopping Etsy now for some accessories….

I got these and this… I’m still shopping…wonder what else I can get…tons of buttons….I’d like this set.  How awesome is that!!!!!!  and this set…well I did order this.  Almost ordered a second one with the LOST numbers or a Lord of the Rings one, but passed this time…

She does custom bracelets…I would love one with the Gandhi saying “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

My Mom

My Mom was the fourth child of her mother and the first child of her father.  My Meme’s first husband had died.  My mother was the first of six more. We don’t have many pictures of the family growing up, but I found some school pictures.
My Mom at 12:
DSC03886   My Mom spoke French until she entered kindergarten.  Then my Pepe declared that only English would be spoken in the house.  Which is a shame, as we lost the language.  My grandparents were descended from immigrants of the Quebec region of Canada.  I have traced that ancestry back to the 1700’s.
My Mom met my father in high school.  He was the bad boy from New York City.  My Mom became pregnant during her senior year. Her senior photo:

My parents married and my dad went off to fight in Vietnam.  My brother was born while he was gone.  Here we are in happier times:
DSC03890 I have a couple of pictures of me in that dress.  One is my favorite.  Here is another favorite of my Mom and I:
DSC03887 Look how young she was!  I think I was about 2 in that picture.
My Mom and my dad tried marriage for ten years and then they divorced.  They have remained friends.  They said, “Just because the marriage did not work out, there was no reason to ruin the friendship.”
My mom met a wonderful man, who became my stepfather:
DSC03889 This is at my wedding.  They were married for 18 years until he passed away on June 6, 1996.
He brought with him 3 daughters.  Here is a picture with his two oldest, their spouses and children at the time, there was one more addition.  My younger sister lives in Maine and has two girls.  We don’t see them often.

My Mom loves all of her grandchildren.

My Mom moved to Florida and was married on a beach in Tampa.

I was able to bring my niece and nephew down to visit a couple of years ago.  We had a great time!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there and especially to my Mom…Love you!
