Stash Saturday

Are you up for another enabling post?  Even though I haven't finished the posts about my New York mini yarn crawl...I'll share what I did buy...

I bought some Woolfolk Far....interesting construction, super soft!
I've been looking for a pattern, originally I thought a hat, but it's so soft, I think a cowl would be nice..

Schoppel-Wollo Zauberball Starke 6....this feels much thicker...they had a bunch of these...and I went with this one..called Blasser Schimmer
I'm thinking thick boot socks...

My most expensive was this one...Skein from Australia...sorry it's very dark..and was hard to take a picture of it...it's called Kaffir Lime
There was another one that I liked, but for some reason, this one was in my hand when I checked out..I'd heard about Skein and just wanted to try it...

Next up..is some Nooch Fiber..in Rhyme..these are inspired from paintings..here's this one
and the painting, to be honest, not sure where the colors came from?

and then some Swan's Island...cuz the color....
and I've gotten a few club orders...

Claimed!  The Mad Color Walking Dead...in Look at the Flowers...

and Nerd Girl Random Fandom in Blackbeard

and I joined a Holiday Yarns club for Lea Viktoria designs...first up Mozart's Rondo in D Major for Waterkant..
and there is the possibility that more will arrive in the mail today...I know I have a swap package on it's way, another Random Fandom...an order from Simply Socks...a special order yarn....

What have you acquired lately?  Do you buy yarn with a specific project in mind or do you just buy, cuz look.......shiny.......

Sometimes I buy with a project in mind, but to be honest most of the time it's just look...shiny...

A Clean Out of the Stash

was in order....and I did....and then promptly went and bought more yarn...but the yarn I bought is all for Christmas gifts...and I lucked out, as they were on sale...and they are bulky, so will be quick projects...

But I also made stuff with two skeins I found...first up was my "Holiday 2013" skein of art yarn from The Crafty Scientist...I bought this over the summer on a stop at Madison Wool....I just loved it..so it became another chain cowl....excuse the Betty photos (and the dirty floor)...I am sick again and was in my pajamas and didn't want to get dressed...

The yarn is made of "soft merino and hand dyed mohair locks, tulle and was plied with mohair"  It'll be fun to wear...and I'll get better photos then...

So I did mention I am still sick, went to the doctor on Wednesday...my third bout of sinus/ear infections this fall...see I'm allergic to dust mites...fall happens, buildings start getting closed up...I live with wall to wall carpeting...and I'm not a routine house cleaner-upper (hence the dirty floor).....so my allergies turn into sinus infections, which turn into ear infections....since I was a kid, I've always gotten sick in the fall...I didn't get allergy tested until I was an adult....you know what my chores were?  vacuuming and dusting...yep...doctor said Mom was trying to kill me...this time though I also took the time off from work, as I have no voice...can't really teach without a voice...it's gone..all the coughing...which is triggered by talking...which, well, I do a lot of in the course of the day..so taking a couple of sick days...

So on Thursday I finished up my fingerless mitts.

I'm going to wear these A LOT!  Again yarn comes from an LYS..dyed by the owner.  It is 100% Columbia Wool..bought from Yarnia in Woonsocket, RI.

I also picked up my second H's Everyday Sock...and pulled out a few other things I'm thinking about...

What did you finish this week?  Joining up at

NYC Mini Yarn Crawl: La Casita

So every year (well most years) our district pays for a free bus for the staff to NYC on Black Friday.  Last year I didn't go..this year, even though I was not feeling well, I decided I needed to go...and do another mini-yarn crawl...

I was able to hit up 4 stores, 2 in Brooklyn and 2 in Manhatten...So I got off at Rockefeller Center, walked by the tree to the subway and took the F train to Brooklyn...

First Stop: La Casita
Look at that display!!!!!!!! Here is a closeup...
Awesome!!!!  They also had a very cool original tin ceiling and fire place...such character these old buildings have!

Super friendly staff!  and the store was filled with lots of fun yarn...I ended up buying some new on the market Woolfolk Far yarn, which is done in the increasingly popular chainette style...
A few more shots of the store...

So, if you ever are in Brookyln..I'd stop by and pay them a visit...

Next up will be Brookyln General Store, a very interesting stop on the tour...

Stitch Along Wednesday

Good morning!  It is a very early Wednesday morning here...5:30 AM to be exact.....I am still sick and heading to the doctor today!

But what have I done in the way of crafting this week?  Well, I haven't gotten much farther on the Shark in the Woods cowl....just a couple more rows...but I'm so loving it!

I've had to cable, for the second time only!

Speaking of sharks...Did you see this posted today?

Shark photobombs surf competition

I also started a pair of fingerless gloves with some Columbia wool that I picked up at a local yarn shop in Rhode Island...

I also had a wander through my stash...and I have two bags to donate to the local nursing home...I donate every once in awhile to there.....it's all "big box stuff" but I have a ton of it...they'll be some more bags in the future...

I also organized my stash, by putting all the skeins already wound into one crate...this way I can just grab a ball when I feel like starting something new...

And I made another braided cowl with some art yarn I bought this summer.....

So what have you been up to? Please join up with us...leave a comment, if you would like....

Stronger Than I Knew...

There was a Taekwondo exhibition at school last week...guess who broke a board?  No one was more surprised than me!  I'm not a physically strong person.  The school that does the exhibition gives a free 2 week pass to all of our students...

and I got to see a former student who was one of the presenters....

YOP #48

Well it is almost to the end of my year....and I'll soon be taking stock of what I've done....as my Friday post showed, I've finished up a few things....

I also started one of the patterns I bought during the indie sale...I am in love with the Snowy Woods Cowl...and I needed to start it! I am using Nerd Girl Random Fandom This Shark, hence my project name Shark in the Woods..  It's got a bit of a sparkle to it....the pattern calls for Aran and it's DK, so I'm hoping it'll turn out okay...it should as I am such a loose knitter....
I'm thinking of starting another pair of socks, my Hey Have I Ever Steered You Wrong?, because Bernard and Christmas....I bought the kit, but I've only ever done one pair of toe-up socks....but hey, if I can do cables on the cowl, I can master toe-up!

I also need to add an edge to the yellow pompom hat...it fits, but is slightly big, so I'm going to add a crocheted edging to it....

I went to NYC on Friday and did a mini yarn crawl...two stores in Brooklyn and two stores in Manhatten..I'll be doing a post on them soon....lots of goodies....including a new Zauberball that needs to be cast on NOW!  while on the bus to NYC, I did work on   'Tis the Season, but ended up frogging a good bit of it for a missed end stitch..bah-humbug!  But I do want to finish that up too...

I have been sick again for about a week or so...since about last Saturday....I think it is finally leaving, but this Saturday I spent the day not doing much...watching an America's Next Top Model marathon and taping a Vikings marathon and taking naps....today I'll tape and watch The Walking Dead marathon starting at 2....I'll probably work on some things today too....

what have you been up to?  Join us on Ravelry...

I've Been Busy

So today I will be heading into NYC for the day...I'm actually planning on hitting up some yarn stores in Brooklyn...I'll let you know how that goes....

This week I worked on finishing some things....

I've been working on this cotton wrap/cowl for a long time..it was very splitty cotton that was hard on the hands...but I finally finished it...

I probably won't wear it now until closer to spring....but am glad it is done....

Then I finished my Outlander inspired cowl...I started this one for a swap, but didn't like how it was turning out in this yarn, so did it in a different yarn for my partner...but decided to finish this...

I like how it ended up...although you can't tell, because Betty (I'm calling her that now) does not have shoulders to hold it up properly...it folds over more....

A couple weeks ago, I decided I needed a yellow pompom hat...well here is mine....finished the pompom on Thursday morning...

And finally my swap partner really likes fingerless gloves...so I made a pair that were inspired by Mrs. Fitz from Outlander...
I really, really like these...am going to make myself a pair.....

So what have you finished this week?

Join up with ChrisKnits, Wisdom in Wonder, and Creative Friday.....
