Stitch Along Wednesday - The Future

So, when Tami stopped posting WIP Wednesday and FO Friday in September, many of us were at a loss.  So I figured I'd do a link party and then Chrisknits also was doing one (and I found another one)...and we decided to split it...I'd do Wednesday and she'd do Fridays...well there has not been much interest....I did get in touch with Tami and tell her we were doing them and she said she didn't know when she would ever get back to them and kind of gave her blessing...

I know there are other link parties out there...I link to a couple, but I find that their links don't go up early enough for me...and I cannot go on during work and link up...and by the time I get home it just didn't seem worth it...

So I'm asking, is there still an interest in carrying on the link-ups Tami started (and by the way, I am also a Tammy!)..if so I will upgrade the links...if not I'll just stop....

I am going to try and let the last people who linked up with Tami know about this one..some people are still just linking to her blog and the last post was on September 24....if you know of anyone who linked up there, please spread the word.....and Chris stopped because of lack of participation, but if there is an interest..I'll provide the linkups....so for the last Stitch Along Wednesday of 2014...please let me know in the comments what you think...I turn off moderation for Wednesdays...
(update:  I did send some messages, if I could find a Ravelry link on the page.  I didn't want to leave comments on everyone's blog about this, as I didn't want to come off as a troll...)

Seriously, if someone else wants to take over, I have no issue with that...I just want it continued and early enough that I can link (for me that would be 7 AM EST or earlier) Also I am not on Twitter or Google+, but am on Instagram and Tumblr (still figuring this one out)..so if you can help spread the word, much appreciated...

So onto my Stitch Along Wednesday update: 

On Tuesday I worked on some socks....I worked on my H's Everyday socks...got about half way down the leg....then decided I needed to work on my Rolling in the Deep.....and I frogged those and restarted them 4 times!!!!!  before they were working out...that's okay..I was watching The Walking Dead Marathon.....

It's dark here, but the RITD socks are a deep purple with a green and orange stripe....I love the colors!  They are from Quaere Fibre...the orange is an Opal...

I decided to add what I'm reading...this is a memoir based in Hartford, CT.  It's about the author growing up in the 40's and 50's and when there was a serial killer prowling her neighborhood.  I love her style of writing..it's like she's having a conversation with you....

Quick Update

I have finished another hat and a pair of socks! That brings me to 69 completed objects this year.....including 4 pair of socks....hmmmm....and yes, I do work full time, but I don't have my own kids...so I do have a lot of extra time...although I tend to craft mainly on the weekends......

The Hubs and I are trying to decide what to do today...I've been in the house since the 26th...I think I need to get out....

That's  67 projects people...67!  And actually it is more than that.  I didn't count the hats I made my students...I made 17 hats in December and January for my students....but wasn't sure how many were made in January...

I still make the majority of things for myself....the second recipient is my friend Deidre, she loves getting things I make....

My favorite projects this year are my Rainbow Wings, my Lanesplitter and my October Fire socks

All knit projects...I guess I'm proud of the fact that I accomplished them and I learned while doing them...but what I wear the most are my cowls....I usually will throw a cowl on with any outfit...

So what are my active projects going into the new year?  I'm working on finishing my Have I Ever Steered You Wrong socks, my Shark in the Woods, my Holly Golightly will probably be finished today (so that would be one more project for this year), I'm also going to start working on the Outlander MKAL shawl to finish before I start the Downton Abbey one....I actually have several shawls to finish...

For crochet, I'm not inspired to finish any of my current projects, but I do have two Elsa doll/blanket things I need to make...and I started a bowl that I'm going to felt for my desk....I should finish the Tabard Tunic, as it's really just the sleeves and belt and then I can put it together....and the Betty Shrug is just a sleeve...but I'm not loving the yarn...It's a big box yarn, Caron..and kind of stiff....but I know it'll soften up...

Not sure if my list will change much next week for the new year...I may add to it, all the kits/projects with yarn, I've gotten the past couple of weeks..

Last 2014 Stash Saturday Edition

I received no fibery goodness for Christmas...well I did receive these gloves from one of my besties..

They are from Erin Knitwear in Ireland.  She was in Ireland during the summer and bought my gifts there...they are lined with fleece and just lovely...

But as you know, I don't need others to feed my stash, I do it quite admirably myself....

I purchased these fun ornaments from MadColor, I kept the one in the center and gifted the other two..

And I bought an angora transitional mitt kit from MadColor

 Onto the Yarnz:
I received a swap package with some Knitting Rose Yarn in Hot Tub Time Machine

My LYS was having a sale on De Aire, so bought three skeins of it...

A stripey cowl is in the future for this...

And have used this in my Vermonter....

I also went a little mad with the Malabrigo...I used two skeins for gifts and the third for my Vermonter

I commented about a friend's slippers on Facebook and she sent me the yarn from Norway to make my own!

I am waiting on at least one more package...and then my clubs for the month will start coming in...

FO's After Christmas

So it's pretty darn early here....my body is still on my work schedule, meaning I'm up about 5:30 every morning....today I'm heading out to exchange a few things...need a different size...the store opens at 6...but I'll go a bit later...

Yesterday I spent the day lounging about and knitting...I made my Vermonter hat...I've been wanting to make this since I saw JennieKate's version on Ravelry.  So I picked up some Malabrigo Rasta and some Plymouth Yarn De Aire (on sale!) and made my version...

which I finished yesterday...

I also finished one of my Have I ever Steered You Wrong? socks...these are so squooshy..made with worsted weight...

and it fits extremely well!  I have the second started....

I also made myself a sparkly hat to wear on Monday...not the best picture

and then the gifts..lots of cowls....three crocheted, two knitted....

For the secretary:

it's Premiere yarn with the flowers attached...

For the two vice principals

With some Boucle I had in the stash...

For my besties....Malabrigo Rasta cowls...(I'm in love with this yarn, I've now used it 4 times in the past couple of months)

And the final..the ugly elf hat for the principal for Ugly Sweater Day...see we'd had a conversation and he said he had nothing to wear (in fact he wore a suit)..anyway I said I had an elf hat he could wear...(I do, it's in my classroom)...and then I decided to gift him the hat I had started...it's ugly and sheds like crazy....

Today, I'm hopefully finishing the second sock...and maybe the Shark in the Woods cowl, once I return from the madness of the mall......my goal is to finish up some of my WIPs before the end of the year...

Christmas Eve Edition of Stitch Along

Hello there!  It is Christmas Eve here, but I know many of you are already on Christmas Day...and I'm sure are not reading blogs, because of all the merry-making.....but it is early Christmas Eve here...6:30 in the morning early...I have a few places to run out to today and the weather is suppose to turn yucky, so want to get those things done...no snow, unfortunately, but pounding rain and wind...

Since it is Christmas Eve, share what you are working on now, or not.....

Me? My mojo finally returned and since last Thursday I have finished 7 items!!!!!  All but one were gifts...See the ugly hat in the picture?  I gifted that to my principal for ugly sweater day...it's made out of Bernat Boa and sheds like crazy...you can see red pieces on the green...

I also made 5 cowls....and a sparkly hat for myself....

I'll share all of these on Friday....I'll probably have one or two more to share....other than that, the WIPs have been waiting in the wings...I now have 14 days off, so I will work on many more projects...

Two days of school left...and my mojo returned!  So I have finished 5 Christmas gifts in the past 4 days...I have been working almost nonstop this weekend and my thumb is wrecked right now..I alternated between knit and crochet, but my right thumb still bears the brunt of the work and is achey right now..

I also worked for a bit on my Have I Ever Steered You Wrong? Socks....I'm on the leg and they fit the best of any socks I've made so far...maybe toe-up is the way to go?

I have started two hats for myself....and a project owl I bought in a kit.....

In other news, it spit some snow today, but it didn't last....we are going to have a rainy Christmas, but no white stuff...sad face...it just doesn't feel like Christmas without snow...

I've also received a bunch of new yarn....I'll show those sometime this week...and I'll be going on a somewhat yarn-buying embargo for the New Year....as I have plans to go to Norway!!!!!!  I'm so excited...my penpal invited me to visit, so gonna go this coming summer, if all goes well....and she has already talked about visiting some yarn shops there, as she is a knitter and just getting back into it!  So need to save my money for the trip....but will still stay in the yarn clubs.....I'm thinking I'll bring yarn over to gift to her..and that will leave a space in my suitcase for new yarnz...good plan?

StitchAlong Wednesday

It's been a very mojo-less week....finally Tuesday night I started to feel it coming back...so I started a gift cowl...and a hat for myself...

Excuse the pictures, taken at night, everything is dark...

I'm going to make two of these simple HDC cowls...they will be warm and snuggly....

I started the Holly Golightly hat, I bought the pattern in the indie pattern sale on Ravely..

I had started a Santa/elf hat...

It's that truly awful Bernat Boa yarn..it sheds everywhere!

I started an owl from a kit I picked up for 50% off...there are even little tiny plastic needles..

I started a boot cuff, didn't get far...(it's a dark plum color)

My "Have I Ever Steered You Wrong" started to come together..

And I put a few more rounds on Shark in the Woods....trees!  I see trees!

But serious mojo issues going on...hopefully that has passed now and I can finish some of these..or at least stick with something!

I did buy yarn for an Elsa thing I have to do and a couple of other gifts....

YOP #50...close to the end

I absolutely lost my mojo this week.....I've put a few stitches on a few things here and there, but that's about it...I was uninspired by everything and stuck in a couple of places...

Last night I picked up my Have I Ever Steered You Wrong socks again and was determined to figure out the short row heel....YEAH for me...after two youttube videos..I got it!  But there is a hole...I plan on stitching that up from the inside...since it's worsted they are going fast!

That's about it....I did a few more rows of Shark in the Woods...not sure I enjoy cabling much...I have to keep little notes to keep it all straight..sorry pic is so big...


I committed to making 2 Elsa blanket doll things.....I need to find some Elsa blue yarn....

I thought about the Christmas presents I need to make...yep..just thought about them....

Got a package of yarn from my friend in Norway, a sock kit from Simply Socks, ordered yarn for the new Downton Abbey MKAL with Jimmy Beans, even though I have not yet finished either the Game of Thrones or the Outlander one...ordered some of the Yarnmas yarn from Jimmy Beans...and received a swap package....whew!  So my mail has been busy with yarn, even if I haven't.....

9 Work Days to Go

I read a post the other day about a little boy asking how many "sleeps" left until Santa....well I count how many work days left until Santa...because then I get a nice long break...

and yes it is one of the perks about being a teacher...but seriously folks, think about 22 seven year olds who are expected to sit still and "learn" during this time of the year...not only that, but our weather has been crappy...too cold, too wet...to go out for recess, or play when they get home..so they have also been cooped up inside....

So I have 9 more work days until Santa....and for some reason we do not have a half day the day before the break...yeah there will be tons of learning going on that day!

but 2 more until the weekend....

Truth be told..I don't have much to report on my end...I've added a few stitches and a couple of rows to a few projects..but not much else...it's just been one of those weeks...

A-Z of Connecticut: Avery's Beverages

I have a friend who is doing an A-Z of Hamilton, Ontario...and I thought I'll do an A-Z of Connecticut...it's a small state, that tends to get overlooked, but I know there are some wonderful things about it..so first up..

Avery's Beverages in New Britain, Connecticut.  New Britain is a town that has seen some ups and downs..but Avery's has been making their brand of soda for 110 years!  That is amazing!!!

Everyone I know remembers having an Avery's soda when they were younger....

You actually go to their factory and pick out which soda you want in your case.

 There's the Hubs...scoping out the flavors....

It's a ton of fun!  Now you don't have to get an entire case....but there are some very interesting flavors of soda to try...

Here are some of the ones we chose....

So if you are every in the center of Connecticut, it's an easy on/off of Route 72.

They also make speciality ones..look what I still have in my fridge from 2012...

And for those not in the US..they are not calling President Obama a donkey...a donkey happens to be the symbol for the Democratic Party (go figure)....they had one for the other guy, but I didn't buy it.

Well I thought being home sick that I would get lots done...uhm..nope..but I watched a lot of tv...good shows, crap shows..shows I've wanted to watch but didn't have the time....and several movies...

I did work on some things, mainly the Shark in the Woods cowl...but I hit a standstill, as there is quite a bit of cabling, and I had to ask questions a couple times, or search for what an abbreviation meant...so didn't get as far as I would have liked...

Today I'm feeling better, but I have 5 more days on the medicine and the roof of my mouth hurts..way back at the start of my throat...weird...probably from all the coughing and sucking on cough drops...I go back to work tomorrow...I have a voice, but I haven't really talked in 4 days, so we'll see if that triggers the coughing again...

And I started a few things....I had some Bernat Holiday Boa yarn I picked up last year and decided last night I needed to make the elf hat...the pattern they gave is knit and child-size, so I'm winging it..

I also decided I needed to start my "Have I Steered You Wrong?" socks..a kit from Schmutzerella Yarns...it's worsted and toe-up...I'm stuck on the short row heel..I've been looking for videos but haven't found one yet...I started it on a circular, but had to change to dpn's....

Oh and I tried arm knitting...that was an experience....I'll have to get some truly bulky yarn to try it with..I pulled some slighter bulky stuff, doubled it...but like my regular knitting, my tension was too loose... I'd be surprised if it doesn't fall apart...gonna wear it tomorrow, so we'll see...

I'll get better pictures for Friday...

I think that is all I started...there could be more...I was bored....but also sleeping a great deal...
