Year of Projects: Year 7, Week 37

Good morning!!!!! Last night I finished one of my longest WIPs...my Kai-Mei socks!

These socks were one of the reasons I learned to knit.  I'd been crocheting since I was a kid.  But I really wanted to knit socks.   And Cookie A was all the rage.  So I bought her book, Sock Innovation, when I saw these socks.  I loved everything about them.  Even the yarn, which I also bought.

Happy Forest from Dream in Color on the Smooshy base.  It's 100% merino, so no nylon.  It feels thicker than most of my other sock yarn.  It looks as if this yarn was discontinued in 2018 and replaced with a nylon blend version.  I believe I have more in my stash.  And I still have about a half a skein of this color.

I know the picture is a bit dark.  I just took it this morning around 7:45, so not completely light out yet.  They are obviously not blocked.  I don't block my socks, but may with these because of the lace portion...the butterflies! (You should look at the pattern to see these better) There are so many mistakes in the butterflies, but whose going to be looking at my feet?  Now my dilemma, what do I wear these in???

Kai-Mei by Cookie A

Cast on: April 8, 2012, they were ripped out and re-cast on a couple of times, not sure if that is the original date.
Completed: September 5, 2020
Yarn: Smooshy by Dream in Color in Happy Forest

The leg is just a rib and goes quickly.  Yesterday, I had one butterfly repeat done.  I picked them up about 1:30 and finished about 10:30 (there were breaks for dinner and other things)

I am so happy that these are done!  They were my oldest knit WIP!

And, I have another finish!  This is a cowl that I started on the train ride back from Vogue Knitting Live in 2018!  I just cast on 100 stitches and then didn't do anything with it.  I picked it back up in May and used the Cowl-A-Licious recipe from Sour Cherries blog.

I bought the yarn at Knitty City in NYC.  It is Freia Handpaints in the colorway Dirty Hippie.
I'm calling it my Slushie Cowl, as the colors remind me of Slush Puppies...

The top and bottom is just row 1: purl, row 2: YO, K2Together, row 3: purl....

Cast-on: May 10, 2020
Cast-Off: September 4, 2020
Yarn: Knitwhits Freia Handpaints Ombre in Dirty Hippie, it's a sport weight

I have a bit left, as I was afraid of running out of yarn.  I probably could have done another repeat in the blue.

This was never on my list.

So this week was pretty successful.  One project from the list complete and another WIP complete....My room is all set up...and stark.....I posted pictures on my Instagram feed (graceysgoodies).  Students start on Tuesday.  We shall see how this all goes.....

Not sure how much crafting I'll get done this week.  I still have two days because of our long weekend.  I do have some school stuff to work on, but should still be able to craft.

But I am running into some physical issues because of my psoriatic arthritis.  My elbows and shoulders are staring to be very painful if I craft for awhile.  So I do need to take breaks, sometimes days before I can craft again.

I am hoping to vlog this weekend, so that should be up sometime this week, if you are interested.  I had a giveaway on the last vlog that noone entered...and I will have another for this vlog.

Have a wonderful week.

ETA:  I did start my JojiFallKAL project, my Boxy
That's 410 stitches my friends....and I'm on the stockinette section, so round and round I go for about 19 inches....Wish me luck and my sanity!

The socks are lovely, I'm sure you'll enjoy wearing them. I love the colours of your cowl. As for the JojiFallKal (did I get it right?) - can't wait to see your progress.

I do love your socks. I've heard that socks without nylon are more likely to felt as they are washed. Socks are how I got started knitting too. With two boys, I wanted a craft that I could gift them. But they aren't really into knitted socks anyway. Oh well.

Tried to comment before and not sure if it worked.

Those green socks are so pretty. I bet you were glad to finish them. I had to chuckle as hubby is always asking me when his socks will be finished. I informed him your socks took 8 years to complete. Bet he never asks about his socks again. The colors on your cowl are so pretty. They will be so cheerful this winter when it gets gray outside all the time. Boxy is one of the patterns I have been eyeing for sometime. I am not sure about the amount of ease in it. I love my tops to be loose though so it might be perfect. Will be fun to follow your progress with it.

Good for you on the gorgeous green socks.....St. Patrick's Day for sure! Your cowl is so pretty and the colors are exactly the color of the slush puppies! LOL! I have heard Boxxy mentioned several times. You can't go wrong with Joji from what I hear.
Enjoy your last few days off and stay safe and well! I have arthritis but I don't usually do much of anything for hours at a time so I've not had a problem except using bulky yarn to crochet with. I switch off between housework and then handwork and then more housework and handwork....you get the picture. It might help if you don't so any one thing for long periods of time. I hope that helps. I've had RA for years and between that and old age I've learned to manage it pretty well. Take care!

Long languishing WIPs feel so GOOD when they are finally completed! Handknit socks are usually a little thicker than my usual socks, so they seem to only fit comfortably in my Birkenstock clogs.

I have the same cookie A book and I too made the Kai Mei. I have to spin some more sock yarn to make something else from the book. I love the green of yours.

Those Kai Mei socks are beautiful! I love the color and the lacy butterfly sides.

Congratulations on your finished socks, they look great and hope they don’t shrink or felt after all those years in progress. I was wondering whether as your arthritis is acting up whether concentrating on more WIP finishing may be good, as there’s less knitting to do before you get the buzz from an FO? Just a thought.

The socks are gorgeous and such a stunning colour, no one will notice any mistake.

You are right--those colors are very slushy-sh. Very fun! Congrats on the socks.
