YOP #47

This has been a productive week! On Saturday I reconnected with a friend through Facebook.  Well here's the deal...when I was in high school I had penpals, lots of them, around 30...mostly in other countries and a few in the States...this friend is one of my penpals...I have never met her, but we have been writing to each other since about 1983-1984!  She is the only one I am still in touch with...her name is Tone and she lives in Stavanger, Norway.....We've always been in touch, but the past few years it's been sporadic...hopefully we'll stay more in touch....so anyway she has re-taken up knitting!  She is not working at the moment, after working 50-60 hours a week the past couple of years....so she made some slippers and is going to send me the yarn and pattern to also make some..these are hers...
and I got her to join Ravelry..she had never heard of it....

Now I consider blogging my present way of having penpals! So I consider you all penpals..

On to my work for the week...if you read my Friday post, you'll know I finished two pair of socks this week! Yesterday I finished the first of my H's Everyday Socks....they come in one size and really are too big for me....I have skinny calves and skinny ankles....so I am learning to readjust the patterns for me...I figure each time I finish one, I've learned something....I'm also thinking I need to get some thin elastic and weave it through my cuffs....that'll help keep my socks up....I did start the second sock..

Yesterday I also finished a pair of fingerless gloves for my swap partner...she's kind of particular, so I hope she likes them...the wool is a bit itchy, but hopefully will soften...I can wear them, no problem..but the Hubs wouldn't be able to...

I'm really trying to finish up some WIPs..I'd like to start the new year with a shorter list...and actually cast on/start some of the knit/crochet projects I have waiting in the wings...

I am having a problem with my fingers..they have been cramping really badly..so I need to start rotating projects and not just sock knitting with the tiny needles..

That's it..I hope you all have a wonderful week and a fantastic Thanksgiving, if you are American..and I'll see you back here next week....

How lovely to re-connect and what a long time to be penpals. Love the slippers they look so cosy. Well done on finishing the two pairs of socks and I hope the re-adjusting goes well.

How wonderful to still be in touch after all these years. I used to find penpals in the back of country magazines. I forget the names of them now. Or maybe it was country cross-stitch magazines. Anyways, so nice that you two have been able to connect also through social media. That's awesome! Best wishes, Tammy

Nice slippers. Can't wait to see yours. I have a pair I bought last winter. They are very warm and comfy. Unfortunatelly, they are not appropriate to step outside the house when it is wet (like now). So I mostly wear Birkenstock. Have a nice week. Regula

I usually have to readjust sock patterns because the "regular" 64 sts don't fit unless it's some sort of stretchy pattern. I usually have to go up to 72 in that case. Exceptions include going up to a US #1.5 needle and using 64 sts (like I did for my Monkey Socks). That's really the only exception.

If you've not looked at it, try to get a copy of Big Foot Knits by
Andi Smith (Cooperative Press book). It talks about how to adjust sock patterns, including how to do it with actual patterns.

Ah it's always good to catch up with old friends. And a slipper pattern to boot - can't wait to see yours!

I don't have that many active WIPs right now, but I have 2 long term ones I need to just get done! But the are big projects so I cast them off for quick knits. Need to knuckle under!

The slippers look so cozy and warm. I take they are felted? In your posting picture is that you with the beautiful sweater coat on? You both look great! I take it you made it yourself? Really nice!
You got lots done this week for sure! Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
