Flat Stanley

Hello those out there in blog land!

I am sending out a plea!

Every year I do a Flat Stanley project with my students and every year I need Flat Stanley host families....

What is Flat Stanley? Stanley is a boy who was flattened by his bulletin board and has numerous adventures because of it. The book was written by Jeff Brown. A very brilliant teacher conceived of the idea to send Flat Stanleys out amongst the people as a project for her students. It has snowballed from there.

This is the "official" project page

I have my students make a Stanley, write a letter and provide an address to send the letter to a friend or relative. However many of my students do not have someone to send a Stanley to, so I enlist help. Some other teachers have volunteered, friends and family. But it is fun to see how far we can send our Stanleys. This year, I have the most students I have ever had....58 and I'm going to need many "emergency" Stanley families.

What does it involve on your end? It can be as little as you want or as much as you want.

The least required is to return Stanley with a letter about his adventures while he stayed with you. The most can be as much as you want.

Here are some pictures of "scrapbooks" we have received back with our Stanleys.

Please, please, please would you be willing to help out and host a Stanley? It does involve providing your address, so I completely understand if you aren't willing to volunteer. But it also could provide a blog post or two for you!

Does Stanley want to go abroad? If so, send him over to visit the Gingerbread Lady in Germany :-)

Shoot me an email, or leave a comment on my blog, and I'll be happy to help out. My High School students can certainly help him out! I'm in Michigan, so it's not nearly as interesting as the previous two posters, but I'm willing. We could probably host a couple, if need be--I could assign one to each of my four resource room English classes.

Hello!
I'm and ESL teacher at a private school in Mexico, am I too late to participate?
Stanley would be having adventures with my 6yrs. old daughter and I as well as at the school where I work and my daughter attends.
Please let me know if we can help as we would be very happy to participate in your Flat Stanley project.
Warm regards from Mexico ~

If it's not too late for this year, I would love to take Stanley along as I travel about in Minnesota and Iowa. And if not this year......keep me in mind for next year!
