Year of Projects, Year 7, Week 20

Good morning!  WiFi is especially sucky right now!  Even those people with the "better" wifi are complaining about it dropping out.  I need to go to my other house, as I've been trying to upload a new vlog since yesterday and it is just not happening.  So those of you who watch my youtube channel, there will be a new video up this week...possibly two!

Liz from Highland Heffalump asked if I have second sock syndrome...Nope....I have HEEL Syndrome!  I get to the heel of a sock and I stop...and it'll go weeks, sometimes months before I put the heel in.....I'll cast on the second sock, or cast on a new sock before doing the heels...I don't know why...well that's not true....I do know why...heels are not intuitive...and I have to stop and look at the directions and I have to focus on them....so if I'm tired or want something easy, I don't work on heels..

Also, someone has asked about Beach Bag....to be honest, I don't know where it is right now....between the two houses, I haven't been able to locate it....And the title is misleading...it's more of a purse, it's not a big bag.  I found the fabric for the lining at the other house this week, but not the bag...sigh....but here is a very bad picture of it, it is listed in my projects on Ravelry

So this has been the week of the WIPS.....I have been working on some old projects.....

I finally finished sock 1 of my Kai-Mei by Cookie A.  These were the socks that made me want to learn to knit.  I cast on the first one April 8, 2012 and cast it off yesterday....I had to fudge the toe, as I had way too many stitches....
And I cast on the second one...the leg goes fast on these and the yarn.  The yarn is Dream in Color Smooshy, which although a fingering, is thicker than most.

I also pulled this beast out....
This is a blanket for my friend's youngest son.  He picked out the yarn when he was 8 or 9, he just graduated high school.  There are more than 300 stitches per round!!!! This is how many rounds I've done...

I also did another two repeats of my Beekeeper Cardigan.

And this morning I pulled out this mess...
These are the Sour Apple Socks.  I finished them years ago.   And have never worn them.  The feet are short and fat. So I pulled out the foot and now am pulling out the heel flap.  It was 3 inches long!  My heel flaps are, at the most, 1.75 inches. And it was just a stockinette heel, so ripping it to make it a slipped stitch heel. But now I have this mess...

So have to do some winding.....but also just developed a headache and I'm a bit light headed, so may go back to bed for a bit.....I'll catch up with everyone later!  Hope you have a great week!

I hope your nap cures the headache and light-headedness. That yarn tangle gives me a headache just looking at it. I made the kai-mai socks too - it is a lovely pattern. I have a whole book of cookie A sock patterns - hmmmmmm, maybe I will pick another for this week.
It is annoying when wifi is flakey. We got an upgrade earlier in the month and it has been nothing but trouble - pixelations, slow uploads, freezing zoom calls. Grrr. At least the 'upgrade' is cheaper than what we had, but still I am hoping it is just because more people in the neighbourhood are using it more because of CoVid restrictions and it will get better as life returns to some kind of normal.

I need to live close to you. My favorite part of a sock is the heel. I could knit heels all day long. My least favorite part is the foot. They seem to take forever to do. I would be happy to do all your heels and you can do all my feet. It would be perfect.

I did not realize you were still going between houses. I thought you were down to one house. Now wonder you can not find everything yet.

You have some great projects going on. You are one brave woman to take out a sock past the heel. I probably would have just thrown it away. I am not that patient.

Hope your headache goes away. Actually, I hope it is JUST a headache and not some nasty virus.

Oh no, I hope a sleep helps. Your socks look great and one day you will find the motivation to finish them. Until then we will look at them and be happy.

Ouch! A headache is no fun...yes a Tylenol and back to bed is a good idea! Weaving in ends and yarn tangles are great for watching t.v. You're very motivating with all your WIPs and putting some finishing touches on them! After Stitch Maynia and all those starts I did I am itching to finish something...anything! LOL! But I do want to start some socks or finish...I have to go look!
Have a great week and keep up the good work!

Lefty crafter had a great point. We should link up with others who like the parts of sock making that we don't! Great solution.
Hope your headache goes away~!

Ah heel syndrome...I see. I’m with Marsha, my favourite bit is the heel and my worst bit is the foot. Isn’t that funny, if only we all lived closer we could have a production line of socks. To be honest, all the pairs of socks I have made for myself have had the heel from Hermione’s Everyday Sock pattern and so I know it by heart now and it fits my heel well, it is easy to pick up the stitches because of the garter stitch edge of the heel flap. Perhaps there’s a heel out there that would click with you and it’s just proving elusive at the moment. 😉. I hope your headache has passed.

Heels are what keep me from even contemplating learning how to knit socks. I have a feeling I'd be just like you. But you've figured it out and eventually get to them. I fear if I started knitting a sock, I'd never actually finish it. All because of the heel.
