Good afternoon.....teacher here on summer break...I forget what day of the week it is.....so I'm updating kind of late....
But I have a finish! A pair of socks, just not a matching pair. Although my besties, Deirdre would wear them like this....me, I'm a matchy-matchy and my socks have to match...
The thinner stripe is Mothy and the Squid and the thicker is White Birch...I have lots of White Birch! I immediately cast on their mates, and they will be my travel knitting....but I have so many more I want to cast on!
Then we have these
They are way too big for me.....I did a 1x1 ribbed cuff, I usually do a 2x2.....The needles were new, Zing, but the same size I normally use...Occassionaly a regular stockinette stitch will just be too big on me.
Although I am fat, I am small bone structured and my ankles and calves are skinny...My father used to say he didn't know how I walked on those toothpicks! So I really need a sock with some grip, which is why I mainly do Vanilla Latte...what other sock patterns do you know that fit this bill....This is also why I don't do too many patterned socks....My Hermione's Everyday pair are huge on me.....but I still wear them...with boots.....I know I can fudge that one to make it smaller...I think I did the cast-on suggestion of 64, I now know I need to do 56 (or smaller)....and yes I know there are some patterned socks that pull in, most of them tend to have cables...and I don't do cables well, yet....
I tried to save the cuffs, but you can see how much bigger they are....
And I added the heel and turn to another sock...
The yarn is called Sunny Skies, the dyer is either no longer dyeing or online.....so I took the rainbow repeat from my extra yarn from a White Birch skein...I'm going to love these...
I did a few rounds on the sleeve of the elephant sweater, but it's a bajillion degrees and we have no a/c at the Homestead...so it's really only been picking up the socks when I'm not too sweaty.....
And some people were interested about the Homestead....I did start a blog about it...but it's been slow going....our driveway is a 1/4 mile through the trees.....we have wifi, but it sucks....it's almost like having dial-up again...we have no other option, as the driveway is too long...we were told we would need to pay about $10,000 to lay the underground wires...yes, that is not happening.....so loading pictures takes a looooong time! I will get there and let you know when it is up.....
So no real finishes this week, but lots of sock knitting....

Year of Projects: Year 6, Week 28
Hellooooooo It's been many, many weeks....I thought I was coming back a couple of weeks ago, but it just didn't happen...sigh...I lost my crafting mojo for a long time...I've also been dealing with a personal issue that has been very frustrating and I just wasn't crafting....I started back up at the end of May. I worked on socks, as I have a ton of them started, but didn't finish any....I also started a shawl...I just wanted a garter stitch shawl...and look at that I finished it....It is not blocked yet
I also finished a birthday gift for a friend's daughter. I asked her what she wanted and she wanted a zebra! So I made a zebra....the pattern is Zane the Zebra...you can just google it...it is linked on Ravelry, but is not a pdf, it's in a blog post....
I'm sure Lucy will change the name.....
I've also worked on Lucy's Elephant sweater. I have 1.5 sleeves, ribbing and buttons and then it is done!
So while I took a long break, I have been knitting or crocheting everyday for the past couple of weeks...I'm glad to be back.......

Year of Projects - Week 14
Good morning! I actually have no updates this week, but I didn't want to skip another week.
It was parent conference week, so it was an exhausting week....I am finally recovering....
Did you hear about what happened to A Hundred Ravens? They are awesome indie dyers out of New Hampshire. They were in Dallas, Texas for the Dallas Fiber Festival and had their trailer stolen, which had everything in it!
Luckily, the thieves donated over 1000 skeins of yarn to a local charity. A crocheter that works at the charity knew that was unusual and did some research....so they were able to recover part of their stock. The other vendors cobbled together a booth for them and they were able to recoup some of their loss....there have been two gofundme set up...https://www.gofundme.com/a-hundred-ravens-trailer-was-stolen-fully-loaded?member=2006756&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fb_co_campmgmt_m&fbclid=IwAR0DcFjOnEnx4ZAO_bENea8ScNTsOIHa2vZOfebaxyQK4Gse2Dem0c7pOn8
and another one https://www.gofundme.com/a-hundred-ravens?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fb_dn_cpgnstaticxlarge_r&fbclid=IwAR0nJDPcBG3HgDFRX0ocGE_o05HOYesucIhWzd-pa1MIC7esBYJpHFsCyqI
This one has met its goal and they will be able to replace their trailer.....
There is also a raffle organized by the vendors at DFF, $30 for a ticket....not sure that one is still happening, as they are pulling the winners today.....
A Hundred Ravens are a great bunch of people....I do personally know them, as I've bought from them at fiber shows and also they are one of the vendor booths we use as a meetup for New England Fiber Festival....
Since my stash is split between two places, this was the only AHR yarn I have with me...
That's Maleficient on their Iacos base and Peggy Gradient set, inspired by Hamilton.
So no new finishes, no new cast-ons, and no updates....one more week before Spring Break, when I plan on working on bunches.....but we all know how plans go....
I'm going to be starting a blog about The Homestead....I'll post a link when it goes up....

Year of Projects, Week 13
Well I skipped another week. I skipped because I had nothing to write about. Many times when I finish a project, I take a break. I don't tend to cast on or start another project right away. So I took a break for about a week. Added some rows on socks, but that was about it....
Then yesterday I took out my Miss Winkle, or Porch Winkle, as I call it. It took a few minutes to figure out where I was in the pattern and of course, I did a loop wrong.....but I did put on three new loops!
There's a black marker under the third loop, that is where I started. I really love this yarn and think i'll wear this a lot.....so this should be my next FO...I started it in June of 2016.....
I also worked on my Game of Thrones shawl, but now the stitch count is off, so I put it away again, until I have the brain power to work on it! I have spring break in two weeks, so I hope to finish up some projects then....although right now I have no option to watch Game of Thrones, as DISH is in dispute with HBO......
This upcoming week is parent-teacher conferences, which are exhausting!!! Then another full week before vacation! I'm not sure I'll survive....March is a long month....
My giftee LOVED the alpaca! I blogged about him here
I received a nice package. A beautiful cobalt blue yarn bowl, gorgeous purple gradient minis, some beautiful alpaca autumn gradient yarn....I guess she is sending a second package, as she forgot a few things....
I guess that is about it. I'll be watching The Walking Dead all day, as the season finale is tonight. Plus been having issues with my ankle this week, so trying to stay off of it this weekend....which is sometimes hard, as Baxter would like me to go with him on walks....I only made it a bit and then was back at the house to put the ankle up...

Year of Projects: Week 11
Oh look at that! Two weeks in a row! And I again finished something on my list! Without starting anything new this week!
Pattern: Maedwe by AnneLena Mattison in the book, Free Spirit Shawls: 20 Eclectic Knits for Everyday
Yarn: O, Willow, Willow, Willow on Mad Color Slink. It was a club yarn
I now want to finish ALL THE SCARVES/SHAWLS!!!!! But I'll probably go back to a sock project, although I did find my Miss Winkle and I adore the yarn, so really want to finish that one too!

Year of Projects: Year 6, Week 10
I have again, not blogged for several weeks.....it has to do with pictures....haven't taken pictures or when I thought about taking pictures, the light was not good....but I'm blogging today...mainly to avoid correcting papers as it is the end of this term....Hopefully it won't be several weeks again before I blog....
I do have two finishes...one today and one earlier this week....Today I finished my Northhampton socks or Green is the Best socks.....these were the socks that were closest to be finished....I did cast on two more pairs of socks, however!
The other finish was not on the list, it was for my swap partner....I made an alpaca! I love this so much! I will need to make one for myself....
And I started the Snow Day socks on Monday...when we had a SNOW DAY!!!! I had been holding on to this yarn for the occasion! Yarn is Snow Day by Pixie Yarn....I may have bought a couple of her sock sets...
The other socks are a vanilla pair. So I kept seeing all this pink and red yarn for Valentine's Day..although I love red, I'm not much of a pink girl, unless it's like fuschia..I do like a rose pink too...but then Freckled Whimsy posted Sweet Treats and Rosy Cheeks and it was more browns, with a touch of pink.....the cuff is Leading Men Fiber Arts in Bent Neck Lady (I think).....
2019 Finishes!!!!!

Works In Progress:
WIPS: Crochet:
Round Ripple: (Started 2006 (?) Aiden)-not sure he'd want this anymore, being a high school freshman and all, but I think I'll finish it for him. He is now a sophomore.
Around the World Afghan: (April 2010): about ¼ done - I looked at this recently and I'm still liking it, so I'll keep it...maybe make it a baby blanket instead.
Sunrise Sunset Afghan: this has been hibernating awhile, 6 squares done. I still love the look of this.

Stitch Along - February 13
Well I keep missing weeks......
I have one finished object, My Shelly Valentine....which I'll wear on Thursday and get a good picture of it. But this is before blocking
Started: Feb 10, 2016
Cast Off: Feb 9, 2019 (almost three years!
I used a pair of straights from Lantern Moon...love their wooden needles...
Pattern: Ribbed Shell Cowl
Yarn is from Knitmona, not sure she is dying any longer....it was a special order called Red Velvet Cupcake...it has a bit of a sparkle....blocked, it's just stretched a bit....
So several months ago, I wrote about my Stash Space....well I just looked back to link and it seems like I never published that post! Anyway, I was going to have a Stash Space in the attic of our house. Since we are moving, I am going to be using the master bedroom as my space.....there is still a lot to do...but little by little...
The bed will eventually be moved out of the room.....but this is where it was today....I moved the cedar chest over to the wall, so that I can use my ball winder and swift...

So there is still a lot of work to do.....this house has three large "crawl"spaces (we can stand in them) full of stuff....but most of the rooms are 80-90% done.....
So I'm working on that big project, as well as trying to complete my WIPs....
