One of the places in Gloucester that we visited was Eastern Point Lighthouse. We took a drive over there and then didn't enter, because there were big Private Road, No Access signs...well back at the hotel I did some research and found out you ignore those signs. They were put up by the "friendly" residents of the area.....but it is actually a public access road.....How Rude!!! I'm sure that road must be packed in season, but luckily we were there off-season and late in the day....
It was a treacherous walk to the breakwater..
That little path to the left of the Hubs is the walkway...and for several feet you are walking over rocks...
You walk past the lighthouse, but are not permitted on the grounds....the area is still used by the Coast Guard.
Along the fence is that treacherous walkway...
Wilkey came along for the walk too...although he mostly rode in my pocket..he did venture out..
We continued on to the 2, 250 foot breakwater...we were going to walk it to the second smaller lighthouse known as Dog Bar Lighthouse.
It's waaaaayyyyyy out there....see that little bit of white???
We eventually got to the end....it was a long walk...and we had a creepy guy following us farther back...when we turned around to go back, he stopped and turned his back to us and hitched up his sweatpants...he had on slippers that were too big and no socks...folks it was COLD!
And then we headed back....
We could see Boston in the distance
Wilkey did some posing....Here he is watching one of the fishing boats head into harbor..
Psst...that would be creepy guy following us out...we didn't know he was creepy guy yet....
It was a great walk, cold, but a lot of fun....I guess on good days the breakwater is packed with fishermen....but we had it almost to ourselves.....
So if you are in Gloucester, go visit...ignore the Private Road signs..and head on down the road...

I'm in love with light houses. My favourite one is in Digby, NS. Lot's of people there though ...
